Hyundai shows off the next-level Veloster in the RM19 in Los Angeles
Cars
Okay, so you know how when some companies decide to make a racing prototype they just throw an arrow kit on it and put a little more horse power under the engine and call it a day?
Yeah, well Hyundai said no, that is not good enough.
And they turned the front engine, front wheel drive Veloster N into the RN19 Mid engine, rear wheel drive.
I know it's amazing.
So the RM stands for racing midship and 19 signifies the evolution of the high performance testing project.
So the RM19 is based off the TCR race cars which is currently in competition.
Now this one has got a two litre turbocharged engine which is pushing about 390 horsepower.
It's made it to a six speed sequential gearbox with little paddle shifter and it goes from zero to 60 in under four seconds and Hyundai has actually hinted that this might be a potential Halo car for the brand So will we actually maybe see this in production?
I mean, fingers crossed.
Yes.
No, I haven't driven this vehicle but I can imagine that it has a ton of grip.
I mean, look at that body kid and those meaty tires 305 Outback three or fives for 390 horsepower.
I mean, this thing's gonna stick like glue But here is the interesting part, so Hyundai has promised to give us 13 electrified vehicles by the year 2022.
And they've actually hinted that maybe they can put an electrified power train into the RM19.
I don't know if it will be a 4EV.
I don't know if it will be a hybrid.
But you have to admit that sweet sweet electric tweak that is instant.
Is awesome on the racetrack.
Now, since this is a prototype, I have no idea how much this thing is gonna cost.
But our very own Steven Ewing will get his chance behind the wheel at the end of this week.
So we should check out his article over on the roadshow.com.
