We water-test the AirPods third generation
Speaker 1: I'm just kind doing some condition. Air PODD is in the water throw add on in. I just got a pair of the new AirPods, third generation wireless Airbus. Apple says that they are sweat and water resistant, not waterproof. I wanna make that perfectly clear. These are not waterproof, but they might survive some water exposure. Now Apple's website lays it all out there about the sweat and water resistance it want not to do with your AirPods. And this goes for all models of AirPods, AirPods, pro AirPods, [00:00:30] max, and includes the charging case. Now I did wanna mention that while I was writing this AirPods water test video, I did accidentally leave my AirPods first generation inside the case outside overnight while it rained. Whoops, I found them the next morning. It was completely soaked. This is actual video, me finding them the next morning after searching around the house, I left my AirPod
Speaker 2: Outside overnight and it rained. So I'm gonna see if these still work bummer. [00:01:00] That is, is a bummer. Oh, at least they're still in the case.
Speaker 1: These cases are pretty airtight. I open 'em up, put 'em in and they worked fine. So my accidental test confirms that they will still work. If you leave them out overnight in the rain, inside the charging case, they were not totally submerge underwater just to be clear, but they were soaked for a prolonged period of time. And if they are freezing temperatures outside, then that [00:01:30] might be a different story the next morning. Okay. Back to my actual planned water test of the apple AirPods, third generation, the first thing on the apple says not to do list is don't place your AirPods under water, such as a shower or faucet. So I'm gonna do exactly that, knowing that apple says not to, but let's just see what happens to this new shiny pair of apple AirPods, third generation. So I'm gonna demonstrate something. We all do. We all do the dishes. We might be listening to our music while we're doing the [00:02:00] dishes. So I'm just gonna kind of fake it. And then I'm gonna draw, drop an AirPod into the sink, into the water. See what happens. I'm just kind of doing some dishes and oh no. Oh, oh
Speaker 1: Right in there. Gonna rinse it off real quick. Okay. So it fell right in that bowl of cereal just for a second. And I've rescued it [00:02:30] and I'm drying it off. Oh, poor baby. I don't see anything bad. It does look kind of damp in there. So I'm gonna put 'em back in and see how they sound. Okay. Well, they survive that test. I don't hear any kind of difference. I can't tell if this one sounds any different than the left one. Well, so far that's pretty good. The right ear is what I put in the water. Remember that? Cause the next one I'm gonna test is the left ear. Uh, so far they still sound pretty good. They survive the test. So now we're gonna move on and [00:03:00] test something else. Now the second thing that apple says not to do with your AirPods is don't swim with or otherwise submerge your AirPods underwater. Now it's pretty clear that that's a big, no, no, you don't wanna go swimming with your AirPods cuz that will for sure damage them. So I'm gonna get a hot tub and reenact an AirPod falling outta my ear and being completely submerged and see if it still works afterwards.
Speaker 1: [00:03:30] Scenario number two, you're chilling at home. You're taking a bath. Maybe you're in the hot tub. You're listen to your AirPods. One of your AirPods pops out, goes to the bottom of the tub. It's underwater completely doesn't survive. [00:04:00] We're gonna find out, look, I'm chilling. Oh my God, hot. It's almost too hot. Air falls out. Air is in the, this guy off. He was on the bottom for maybe 15 seconds 20. Let's see if it survived. I don't see any moisture really in there. [00:04:30] I dried 'em off. Pretty good. They look like they're in pretty good shape. I think they're gonna be fine. So let's try it out. All right. So I'm still here in the bathroom. I am connected. I'm gonna play a song now.
Speaker 3: Little
Speaker 1: Big Dale. Yeah, it worked fine. Trying to hear if one's quieter than the other, but they both sound pretty equal. I don't hear any sort of distortion or any sort of cloudiness. They both still sound really good. So [00:05:00] they've survived a bold serial. They've survived the bottom of a bathtub. Let's see if it will survive a washing machine site. Okay. Moving on. These AirPods have been through a lot, so let's see how far we can push it. The third thing apple says not to do with your AirPods is don't put your AirPods in the washing machine or dryer, but Hey, this is the real world and it's very possible that you could leave them in your pants pocket. And then they go through a washing machine cycle. So let's see how the AirPods do.
Speaker 1: [00:05:30] Okay. It's time for scenario. Number three, accidentally put 'em through a washing machine cycle. So I've done this before with my wired earbuds, with my Adidas pants. After going on a jog, put 'em through the cycle, they work fun. So I'm gonna try to recreate that with the AirPods three. So let's see if the AirPods which have batteries and all kinds of electronics inside will survive a washing machine cycle. All right. So here's my AirPods. Three. I'm gonna go ahead and load up this washing machine. [00:06:00] It's actual laundry to do. So I'm gonna put the AirPods inside the pocket of these pants. One AirPod two AirPods me. Make sure there are deep down on there. All right. We'll see you soon. AirPods be safe. I'm doing some laundry. I'm not gonna wash the case by the way, measure up some soap here. Throw that on in. Shut the dump. [00:06:30] All right. We'll come back in 25 30 minutes. See how the AirPods perform after going through a washing machine cycle. Let's hope they survive. I think I can hear them rolling around in there. All right. So we just finished the wash. I'm gonna take a look inside. Boom. There it is. Just went through the whole wash. Okay. I'm gonna see if I can find my pants and just pull those out. Hopefully the AirPods did not fall out of the pants. [00:07:00] Here's the pants, nothing in there.
Speaker 1: They did fall out. Here's one found one. Here's the other speakers definitely look like they're wet. There's definitely some moisture. They were submerged for probably 25, 30 minutes and they fell out of the pocket. So there was really no protection. So let me just try 'em off a little bit and then I'm gonna try 'em out and see if they still work. Hopefully we still get some sound out of [00:07:30] them. Oh, they already connected. Oh my God. Okay. So they did not survive. Oh my God. Okay. So this right one is pretty much dead completely. There's a tiny bit of sound in the right one. The left one sounds like it's a million miles away and it's very thin frequency. It's just high end. I don't hear any low end. Like it sounds really terrible. I'm actually shocked that it's still connected the, a Bluetooth and [00:08:00] it still works.
Speaker 1: So yeah, putting them through the washing machine will definitely destroy them. They'll still work. I, I suppose you could still make phone calls with them, but it's gonna sound like crap. So that's a Testament to apple that they still work, but barely, barely survive it. Please be careful and make sure you take them outta your pocket before you wash 'em the washing machine. And let's hope this never happens to you cuz that's an expensive mistake to make. So now we know what not to do with your AirPods. So just be careful and you'll be fine. Your AirPods might still work and that [00:08:30] could make you very happy. But the audio quality is most certainly impeded and you may not be getting the full impact of the sound quality after they have been submersed in water.
