The scariest games to play this Halloween
[MUSIC]
Hey, everyone, I'm Jeff Bakalar for cnet.com.
It's that time of year again.
The leaves are falling, and there's a chill in the air.
It's basically the best time of year, because Halloween is right around the corner.
If you're looking for a good scare this year, you're in luck.
Because this season, we've seen more horrifying games than normal.
So I promise you.
One of these games is sure to make your skin crawl.
Be warned though, these games are not for the squeamish.

Up first is a psychological horror game from an independent developer called Infinitap Games.
In Neverending Nightmare, you'll do just that, continually awaken into terrifying nightmares.
While you try and hide from your inner demon.
In Red Creek Valley, secrets grew like spiderwebs.
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is a story-focused tale about the disappearance of a boy who was obsessed with the supernatural.
You'll play the game as a detective who must make sense of the unsettling town where he lived.
Now if you've ever played any of the recent games based on the Alien franchise, odds are this next recommendation will take some convincing.
But believe me, while it's not perfect, Alien Isolation is the best Alien game in a while.
And it's also one of the creepiest games of the year.
Not only does the game nail the atmosphere of the movies, but it provides some of the scariest moments in recent memory.

Here's another indie game worth playing on Halloween, Five Nights at Freddy's may seem harmless on the outside, but once you start playing, you'll realize it's true terror.
In it, you're a security guard that must keep watch over a bunch of Chuck E. Cheese style mascots while the place is closed.
The thing is they're not where they're supposed to be.
So, you're in a constant race to locate their whereabouts, conserve battery life, and try not to jump out of your seat, during the game's screamer moments.
Among the Sleep is a psychological exploration tale that tells the story from the point of view of a two-year-old.
It's unsettling, creepy.
And guaranteed to be unlike anything you've ever played before.
The creator of the Resident Evil series has a new game just in time to make sure trick-or-treaters never come back to your house.
The Evil Within is an updated take on the classic genre of survival horror.
Who follows a detective trapped inside a grotesque and morbid world where half-human creatures are after you at every turn.
And finally, the scariest game to play this Halloween is without a doubt, P.T. Even the circumstances behind this game are strange.
It was announced back in August as an interactive trailer.
But it turned out to be a teaser for something much bigger.
The game is mostly simple.
You're trapped inside of a decaying house and you must make your way through the bottom floor over and over until you reach the revealing end of the game.
PT is a wonderful experiment in horror and I have no reservations in saying it's the scariest thing I've ever played.
I'm not joking, it's terrifying.
Best of all, it's absolutely free.
So there you have it.
These are the scariest games to play this Halloween.
Be safe out there this year but not too safe.
I'm Jeff Bakalar, and thanks for watching.
