Texting 911
-It's Tuesday, November 23rd.
I'm Natali Morris and it's time to get Loaded.
The FCC is considering a new emergency system that would let you report crimes through text message.
The system would even accept streamed video from mobile devices to emergency centers.
This would be a much needed upgrade to the 911 system which was created in 1968.
The last major update was in 2001 when mobile carriers
were required to use GPS positioning to identify caller location.
Netflix has launched its streaming-only plan in the US.
This means you can watch streamed content on Netflix online or on any Netflix-enabled device, like a Roku or an iPad, without having to have an account where discs are coming in and out of your house.
It costs $8 per month.
And now, the US Post Office is sad to be a little less necessary in the world.
Yelp will now show you discounts for checking in at various places.
Yelp Check-In Offers lets businesses
offer discounts to people who check-in to their locations.
This could be standing offers or one-time special offers.
So now, if Facebook or Foursquare doesn't have an offer for your favorite lunch place, you can check Yelp.
Google TV is now being blocked by Comedy Central, MTV, and Nickelodeon; so basically, all Viacom networks.
This means you can search for content on Google TV but you can't play any of it.
CBS, NBC, and ABC are all doing the same.
So, should we still be calling, Google TV, TV if there is actually nothing to watch?
We have a few fun things from Amazon.
First off, a site just for Black Friday deal was launched.
Amazon.com/blackfriday shows you Amazon's holiday shopping specials from now through Cyber Monday.
Amazon also has a new price check app for iPhone that lets you scan a bar code with your phone's camera, or input the name or photo of the item and Amazon will check the price of that item across the web to make sure you're getting it as dirt cheap as possible.
You can find out more at Amazon.com/pricecheck.
And finally, Amazon is allowing MP3 gifting.
On Monday, the company announced
the ability to give someone a gift certificate for a Kindle book.
Now, you can do the same with an MP3 as long as you have someone's e-mail address.
Google has a new way for you to store your Microsoft Office documents.
Google Could Connect for Microsoft Office is a plug-in for Office 2003, 2007, and 2010.
It will synch Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents on your computer to Google Docs online so you can save and share them in the Cloud.
Those are your headlines for today.
I will see you tomorrow.
I'm Natali Morris for CNET.com and you've just been Loaded.
