>> Hey I'm Tom Merritt for CNET.com here at CES 2008 looking at an old friend the Sling Media Slingbox Pro-HD. This is their new version that's coming out later this year but if you don't know what it is this allows you to take your television programming and stream it out over the Internet to other devices. Now this is the HD model so it's able to output 720P, that's the new thing; the old version of the Pro-HD would stream HD and then down convert it. This is sending it out raw. So if you've got a files connection, you've got a real high speed upload which not everybody has, you're going to do fine watching it over the Internet. If not, it's still useful around the house. You can hook up a laptop, to a television, or you could use another device attached like a media center, or Sling Media would like you to have their SlingCatcher attached to another television; and you could stream HD programming from one room to another. Let's take a look at the back of the model here. You've got two components right here; you've got the ATSC connectors here as well and you also have composite connectors, S-video, no HDMI and that's kind of a bummer for HD right? Now what Sling says is the problem is with HDMI there's so much DRM getting in the way that a lot of times you wouldn't be able to transfer stuff so if you want to seriously be able to watch everything from your television, use the analog ho and go component. There's also an Ethernet cable on the back and a USB slot. Now they're not talking about what that USB slot is for but I imagine you could hack it and make this wireless, and they got a little glint in their eye when I talked about that so may be they'll be coming out with some kind of wireless functionality, who knows. This is gonna retail for 399 dollars and will be available sometime in the fall, that's Q3 in business speak. Once again it's the Slingbox Pro-HD at CES 2008. I'm Tom Merritt.
