Samsung's latest VR lets you take giant leaps on the moon

VR always seems to be trying to send you to outer space. This is the first time that my feet actually left the ground. Samsung's A Moon For All Mankind Lunar Gravity Experience may make me look like an awkward frog puppet in fake astronaut coveralls But inside my headset I'm leaping across the face of the moon with the earth hanging in the sky above me. NASA has hopes to put people on the moon relativley soon, again and I think this is exactly the type of thing that we'd be using for the training. The virtural reality is powered by Samsungs Gear VR headset In a Galaxy S9 plus phone. But this experience is souped up with some one-of-a-kind tech. My arms and hands have sensors so that my virtual lens track my movements. And most importantly, I'm rigged up to a specialized harness that mimics the lower gravity on the moon. We reached out to NASA and initiated this partnership with them and for them they were really excited about leveraging this experience to incite the next generation of astronauts that will potentially colonize the Moon or help get us to our first manned mission to Mars. So, we were really excited about the possibilities. Samsung worked with NASA to make the experience as accurate as possible. Former astronaut Mike Massimino said that climbing over a lunar ridge in the experience to see Earth rise beyond the moon's horizon, reminded him of his space walks on the Hubble Telescope. Well the thing I like the most about being in space were those moments, just like here, where you weren't given a task And you're able just to look around and enjoy the wonder and the magic of being there. And that's what it was like. I've never been to the moon for real, but I think now I know a lot more about what it would feel like. This experience is only available at Samsung's event space in New York. But Samsung plans to make more experiences like this available. Leading up to the 50th anniversary.
