Samsung Series 7 Slate
I'm Dan Ackerman.
We are here taking a look at the Samsung Series 7 Slate.
Now you've heard of the Samsung Series 9, that was the super thin Macbook Air clone, the Series 3 was a less expensive laptop including an 11-inch one, and the Series 7, kind of falls in between those.
We've already seen a 15-inch Series 7 laptop.
Also part of the same line is this slate end.
What this is is a Windows tablet, something we don't see that often, but we see a handful (??) obviously not as type of these days as the Apple iPad tablet or bunch of those Android tablets, but Windows tablets have actually been around for many years, I've been reviewing them as long as I've been doing this.
They're just generally have nothing very good.
Usually because they're under powered, the most recent ones that we seen before this year, had Intel Atom chips like you find in netbook.
they're trying to power tablet, they just could not keep up.
This guy like he best new Windows tablet has a full power Intel Core (??) CPU, have been also mean just more expensive than Apple's iPad, it's more than a thousand dollar than (??) much more depending on what size (??) hard drive that get with it.
That's it, this is the fastest Windows tablet that we've tested this year.
Also, has the best battery life.
That does not mean however that it's super easy to use like almost all Windows tablets you basically you know, do one tap for left like or you hold your finger down like this (??) right click, but navigation is still very tortured especially with the Windows interface that's just not designed for fingertip access.
What Samsung has done here that's actually very clever is they built a (??) interface that looks a little bit like Android, a little bit like (??), a little bit like Windows 8 and you can access it like this and that's gonna show you a bunch of your apps laid out here, and you can actually flip back and forth here pretty quickly.
If you used the Windows tablet before, you're gonna find that impressive.
We've also got USB port and micro HDMI and micro SD card that you're not gonna find out on an iPad, and if you get the optional (dock radio?), then you have a full-sized HDMI and an even (??) jack and another USB port and of course, you probably want the Bluetooth keyboard to go along with it.
The onscreen typing is particularly painful on this unit.
If you don't have this keyboard and (??), the system is a lot less useful.
Together, these access are $180, you have to add that on to your thousand dollar plus (cons?) to the tablet by itself.
But when you put them altogether, it's almost like a mini laptop but still little bit more difficult to navigate.
I'd love to see a big icon basis to make this migrate to other laptops, even non-touchscreen ones.
In fact, Samsung says they're doing that and (??) find a lot of that in Windows 8. So the Samsung Series 7 slate is expensive but at the same time, it is the fastest Windows tablet we've tested this year.
Also, has the best battery life.
With these accessories, it's a nice little package but I find the onscreen typing to be so painful and just Windows tbalet interface in general be so painful.
It's (??) recommend.
I'm Dan Ackerman and that is the Samsung Series 7 slate.
