CNET First Look
Samsung Focus SAT&T's Samsung Focus S is one of the premier Windows phones available in the U.S., or anywhere.
If you've ever wished for a Windows phone that was more like an Android phone minus the operating system of course then this is the phone for you. I'm Jessica Dolcourt for CNET taking a first look at the Samsung Focus S for At&t. Now this essentially looks just like the Samsung Galaxy S2 for At&t. It's got a 4.3 inch screen with a super Amoled plus display and WVGA resolution. This is a very light very thin device in fact it's almost too light. It does have a front facing 1.3 megapixel camera. There's an 8 megapixel rear facing camera on the back with auto focus and LED flash. Photos look very good overall. However sometimes they were a little oversaturated in color which is a common flaw in a lot of Samsung phones. The camera focus was good most of the time although sometimes it didn't always focus correctly and there was this really strange ghosting in one image but I would say that overall the pictures were crisp and bright and very good for a camera phone. Now the Focus S lens Windows phone 7.5 (mango?). So it uses live tiles of course. It supports Xbox Live, Amazon Music System as well. At&t adds a few of it's own apps for turn by turn voice navigation. There's also At&t radio and At&t U-Verse which will stream TV shows things like that for a monthly subscription of $9.99. There are 4G like speeds with At&t's HSPA plus network which loaded websites pretty quickly and of course there are no Windows phones yet that support 4G LTE. There are 16 gigabytes of internal memory and there's no additional micro sd card slot again because it is a a Windows phone. So there is a faster 1.4 gigahertz processor onboard. That's one of the fastest for Windows phone yet. Overall this is a really beautiful device with very good camera as far as phones go and this really brilliant screen that let's your content shine. I would definitely recommend it for Windows phones users. The Focus S cost a $199.99 with the new 2 year contract but I did just see it online today for sale for $100. So it's best to check out discounts before you buy. I'm Jessica Dolcourt. You can read all the pros and cons on the Samsung Focus S in my full review on cnet.com.
