Samsung Focus Flash (AT&T)
-Hey everyone, I'm Jessica Dolcourt for CNET taking a First Look today at the Samsung Focus Flash for AT&T.
This is one of their newest Windows phones and it's equipped with Windows phone 7.5 Mango.
So, it's got enhancements on the original batch of Windows phone.
Now, one of the best things about this phone is the price.
It is only $50.
Now, you're probably thinking that you're gonna get a Fisher Price toy for that kind of dough, but I'm happy to say that you would be wrong
because there is a super AMOLED screen on here which is really bright and vibrant.
There's a 5-megapixel camera that takes some very nice photos, and there's a 1.4 gigahertz processor that keeps things moving pretty speedily along.
There's also a really great design to this done.
It's got some sharp edges that make it look a little bit more tailored and sleek rather than cheap, and it's got a metal strip on the back that's a little bit more reminiscent of Samsung's rivals than Samsung, so I'm really glad to see this here.
Good job.
It's also got 4G speed with T-Mobile's HSPA plus network, so it's definitely going to be faster than a 3G phone.
It's also got a physical windows button as one of the 3 buttons down here that helps you navigate around.
In my opinion, it's a little bit too small, but I'm glad to see it here.
There's also a front-facing VGA camera.
I'm also really glad to see that here for a phone this budget, but the camera takes photos that are too blurry in my opinion, so it kinda gave me a headache to look at it.
The 3.7-inch screen is good, but it's a little bit small for typing and reading.
Thankfully, the virtual keyboard on this phone is also really good, so it's accurate, but I'd like to screen to be just a little bit bigger, maybe 4 inches, to be absolutely perfect.
Microsoft doesn't give the carrier or manufacturers that much [unk] room, but they can add apps.
AT&T has added code scanner, AT&T Navigator for turn by turn directions.
AT&T Radio for streaming music,
and U-verse Mobile which will cost you about $10 per month.
Windows phone itself has Bing Maps with turn by turn directions, which are really great.
There's also excellent integration with Zune for music and video, and there is Xbox Live on here for all of the gamers.
Call quality on this phone was a little so-so.
There's only 8 gigabytes of storage with no expandable memory, but the phone does offer 25 gigabytes of free online storage with Microsoft SkyDrive.
All in all, it's a really fantastic deal for a 4G smartphone with 2 cameras and a really good screen.
And if you want more megapixels on the cameras and the slightly larger screen on your Windows phone, then you might prefer the Samsung Focus S for AT&T, but be prepared to pay a little bit more.
This is a great deal once again.
