Hobby robot wrestling is exciting and hilarious (Tomorrow Daily)

Culture
[MUSIC] Greetings citizens of the internet, welcome to tomorrow daily the best week talk-show in the universe I"m Ashley Esqueda, And I'm Jeff Tenaha and it is time for headlines. That's right, we bet you didn't spend your weekend battling for hobby robot supremacy in Japan, but if you did, it probably looked something like this. The Tsukuba Capio Cyberdyne Arena in Japan hosted a robot wrestling tournament this past weekend. 120 different bipedal robots entered the competition. WHich had some very specific size, weight, and movement rules for every entrance, and an adorable little foot race widdled down the entrance to 49 speedy robots that would battle it out in a wrestling tournament. Only one robot could win though. And the final between leg horn and gargoyle kid was both exciting and hilarious. Gargoyle kid took the top prize, which included 500,000 yen, eternal glory and a place in the history books. I don't know. You know what they say about cyber dine area. 120 enter and only one leaves. [LAUGH] Hey, science has provided us a great many things, but I don't think anybody could have predicted that a three armed drummer would be one of them. A team of researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology are testing a smart arm on a drummer to give him a third limb for playing. It can switch between the ride cymbal and the floor tom, change tempo as the drummer speeds up or slows down, and stay on beat with a variety of motors and accelerometers. The team previously built a similar prosthetic for an amputee drummer hoping to get back behind his kit, and they hope to make the robotic arm controllable via brain patterns in the future. Which opens to door to a whole bunch of other applications including doctors using an extra arm. Or pretty much anybody, if you can control it with your brain. Should give them a hand. [LAUGH] Great work. Does this mean the guy from Def Leppard [INAUDIBLE] gonna be? That is always too soon, my friend, always too soon. Maybe that was the guy from down below that [INAUDIBLE] He doesn't need it. He rocks. It was amazing. Okay, guys. So we have to choose which story we are going to talk about on Thursday. I would like to suggest that we discuss the robot fight. You don't want a third arm? Well, I feel like, here, we can talk about the future of robotic sports. All right, I'm in. Robo-sports. I wanna see carnage on an epic robotic scale. Very true. And if you guys wanna talk about that topic, so that we can include your discussion for Thursdays deep dive you can use the #HEYTD. Yeah, all you need to do is shout at us using that. Hashtag on the Twitters and then if we like what you say, we'll incorporate it into our discussion when we talk about it on Thursday. Indeed, and now that we're done with the headlines, let's check out our Phonetographer of the Day. [MUSIC] Our POTD is Floris, who took this picture on their Galaxy S4. Floris writes, I took this picture on my way home from school a couple of days ago, took it near Brummen, the Netherlands. Brummen, you think? Brummen. Bremman? took it on my Samsung Galaxy S4 in HDR mode. You have my full permission to use this picture in your show. Brummen looks pretty. Brummen looks Amazing. Roman? Roman? Rumen? Florence, send us an email and tell us how to pronounce that, because we have never been there, which means we've never heard the locals refer to it with our ears. Also we're public school educated, so you know. Very sad. [LAUGH] Very sad. If you guys wanna submit your phonetography to be on the show, you can email us Info's down here. Tomorrow@CNET.com. Send us questions too. Yeah. We got a lot of feedback on the title discussion we had last week. Yeah, we loved that. Questions, we love it. Yeah, be sure to tell us what device you took your picture on and give us a little story about it. Maybe pronunciation of some things.>> Yes. And give us permission to use them on the show. We are fools who cannot pronounce things. That's absolutely right. Just make that assumption, that's a baseline, and if we exceed your expectations We put the emphasis on the wrong syllables. That's very true. You can also find us on social media, all that good stuff, that is it for today's show, we'll be back tomorrow, with a brand new [UNKNOWN] science fact meets science fiction. Coming together, being great. Until then- Be good humans, bye, guys. [MUSIC]
