>> Hi I'm Molly Wood for cnet.com and I'm here with a quick tip for how to create a self-extracting archive with WinZip. Hot stuff right? No seriously now you might think that only a program publisher would need to create a self-extracting exe but these actually come in really handy if you want to send say, 100 photos of your new baby to the new grandparents. This way they don't have to learn how to use WinZip. They just double click and all the photos unzip automatically ready for viewing. Here's how to do it. Let's say you've already zipped up your photos here; now open up this zip file in WinZip and now hit shift K or go to actions and select make an exe file. Now if you're using an evaluation copy of WinZip you'll be reminded several times not to distribute files illegally. You also be asked if you want to test the self-extraction which the program does without extracting the files onto your desktop. Click through that as well and then your exe files should appear in the same folder as your zip. From there you can use WinZip's contacts menu options to e-mail the archive with just one click. And that my friends is why little old WinZip remains one of the most popular archiving programs out there. For cnet.com I'm Molly Wood.
