Put your wallet in your phone
I'm Antuan Goodwin and this is Tap That App, the show where we dig up the hottest Smartphone Apps and serve them up to you on an appetizing video platter for your enjoyment.
Now, many of carry a lot of junk around in our wallets, receipts, business cards, credit cards, and cash and most of us aren't as bad as the poster child for back pocket bricks or we could probably all use a bit of technological streamlining.
After all spending all day sitting on a fat wallet is not only uncool,
but it can also cause back problems due to spinal misalignment.
Now, here are some Android Apps to help you avoid the dreaded George Costanza wallet.
Now Google wallet has been big in the news lately for its ability to replace cash and credit cards by using a chip in your phone to facilitate payments, but it's only available on one phone.
What about the rest of us who don't have a Nexus S 4G?
Now, it's not a perfect analog, but PayPal mobile makes it just one step easier to pay for things with your phone.
It's a time to pay for your share at the restaurant.
Simply whip out your phone and PayPal your share to friends.
If they've also got the PayPal app on their phone, you can even bump them though even quicker just by knocking your phones together like boom.
Now, PayPal obviously won't totally replace traditional payments, but let's assume for now that you can probably carry a less cash and fewer cards.
Now, what else can we eliminate?
How about all those membership cards, club cards, and discount cards?
It seems like these days every business wants to give you a discount card of some sort.
Get them out of your wallet and in to your phone with KeyRing.
This app will allow you to scan the bar code that's present on most of these discount cards and reproduce it on your phone screen.
Now, the cashier can scan your screen when it's time to check out and you've got the discounts without the clutter.
Don't just stop on the discount cards.
Scan the membership card for your gym, your library card and whatever else you can find.
Now, what about all the junk that people gave to you?
If your network socialize or just handle business on a regular basis, you've probably got plenty of business card stuff in your wallet.
Why not get rid of that clutter before it starts.
Go Go Googles besides being extremely difficult to say, it's a photoscanning app that uses your phones' camera too among other things.
Snapshots of business cards and store the information as a searchable contact in your phone's address book.
It's not perfect, but when it works it's brilliant.
Give it a go.
It's a free app.
Maybe you like to carry around a few copies of your own business card, check out Bump.
It's across platform app for Android and iPhone that allows you to send your contact information, photos, and even links to our favorite apps to another person running the Bump app simply by knocking your phones together.
You can decide what info gets sent and what doesn't on a per Bump basis.
If that's too much trouble, you can also use the bar code scanner app to quickly share and accept contact information with a user via QR code.
That's it for this week, I'm Antuan Goodwin.
I've just given you a pick into my digital Smartphone wallet and as usual that's just the tip of the iceberg.
They are plenty more creative uses for apps that you can use to shrink your wallet from back working brick to barely there and like there.
For example, using the camera app, you can organize receipts.
Anyway, if you got an app that you would like receipt app send it to Tap That App for CNET.com and tune in to CNET TV for even more awesome video programming.
