Nokia 3555
[ Music ]
>> Hi, I'm Ken Sherman, senior editor at cnet.com.
Today we're going to take a first look at the Nokia
3555, this is a new phone for T-Mobile service. This
Nokia looks a lot like the Nokia 6555 which came out for
AT&T last year. It has that same slender shape, it's
very attractive I thought, pretty slim, which, you know,
Nokia hasn't really gotten into the thin phone thing too
much. It does have a royal blue color, also there's
sort of an interesting design thing. You open the phone
like that you can see that this stripe goes all the way
down the phone. One thing I didn't like about the phone
is that of a scaled down version of an earlier Nokia.
First, it's got an external display. Instead of being
[Inaudible] colors it's actually monochrome. So that
means it won't show your photo color I.D., it won't work
as a view finder for the camera that's right here. So
that's a little disappointing. Internal display, it's
262,000 colors but the pixel resolution is a little
lower. So things look a little blocky, you know, you
can see kind of the pixels. Menu system is pretty easy
to use, easy to understand as well. Key pad buttons and
the navigation controls have just been a little bit
redesigned as well. Navigation controls are pretty
large, the key pad buttons are pretty large as well.
Everything's flat with the surface of the phone, which
you know, isn't the greatest thing over all, but still
these weren't very slick, we could use them quickly but
just dialing by feel was just a little difficult. Well,
the phone does have voice dialing, a music player,
Bluetooth, it does have a VJ camera. We really aren't
seeing many of those any more, so kind of a weird
feature thing and in fact some features are really mid
range and one feature is pretty low range. Also, this
phone is equipped for 3 G networks. We all know
T-Mobile doesn't have a 3 G network yet, but possibly
when -- they're supposed to launch it this year, then
this phone will be able to get any kind of 3 G services.
This is your micro USB port, and then you do the volume
rocker right here. That is on the front flap which is a
little unusual. Usually we see them on the rear flap of
the flip-phone. So that means when you open it up it
sort of changes a little bit of the position. I'm Ken
Sherman and this is the Nokia 3555 [ Music ]
