It's a very basic 10-megapixel point-and-shoot camera with a wide-angle 15x zoom lens, image stabilization, a 3-inch LCD on back and a street price less than $250. Unlike a lot of megazoom cameras, the L100 is designed for fully automatic snapshots, not much else. So, don't be fooled by its digital SLR appearance. Controls are large and clearly labeled, so using it is pretty straightforward. Shooting options include Nikon's easy auto, which picks an appropriate scene mode for what's in the frame or you can second guess it by choosing your own scene mode. The L100 has a regular auto mode too that gives you a handful of controls, but noticeably absent is the ability to select ISO. It's completely automatic. However, regardless of ISO, photos were never very sharp, so no matter what we were shooting, the results looked very soft. Also while we appreciate the convenience of AA batteries, this camera takes 4 of them and can't be used with rechargeables, only alkaline and lithium. But, if you're not picky about batteries and photo quality and you're after a simple point-and-shoot experience with the long range of 15x zoom, the L100 is a decent entry level megazoom.
