>> Hi, I'm Ken Sherman, the senior editor here at
cnet.com. Today we're going to take a first look at the
Motorola Razr 2V8, the new phone for T-Mobile. T-Mobile
is the last carrier to get the Razr 2. We've seen it
with Sprint and Verizon and Alltel, and just about every
other carrier out there. T-Mobile did go with the V8,
so that is a non-3 G version. Tops out at the edge. Of
course T-Mobile doesn't have a 3 G network. And there
are a couple of other important changes to the phone as
well. I side before, I really liked the Razr 2's
design, I love the slim styling, love the shaved down
internal antenna, also called the double chin, like that
sturdy hinge. Just a real more attractive phone. Also
like that external display. It's very big, very bright,
just like it was in the other Razr 2s. Very important
difference here though, the other Razr 2s had short cut
keys at the bottom of the display that would get you to
a certain function like the recent calls list or
something. The V8 doesn't have that. Which is
unfortunate. The only time you can see the onscreen
controls is if you activate the music player. Which I
really found unfortunate, the other carriers made full
use of that display and T-Mobile just doesn't go that
extra mile. Also, I didn't like the external controls
so much, they do have a tactile feedback as well. The
volume rocker here, Motorola smart key, voice styling
button. But if you can't start the music player or the
camera with the phone closed. At least on this model
that we reviewed. So that's unfortunate. I do have a
camera lens up here. Like the other Razr 2s, there is
no flash. Inside, very nice display. Internal, really
bright and colorful. T-Mobile did go with its own menu
system, which is a little different from Motorola 's
design. The organization is about the same, but just
the appearance is a little different. Key pad buttons
and navigation controls have the same design. Flat with
the surface of the phone. But they are big, they are --
have some a little bit of tactile rigidness between
them. So pretty easy to use overall. Somewhat slick,
but a lot better than other really flat controls we've
seen. Inside the phone has a music player. You do have
to load music on the phone via the USB cable. There's
no wireless downloads. Stereo, Bluetooth, speaker
phone, a lot of other high-end features. Just doesn't
have that 3 Gs, so that's a very important difference
between the other Razr 2s. I'm Ken Sherman, and this is
the Motorola Razr 2 V8 for T-Mobile.
