>> Hi, I'm Scott Stine, senior associate editor at CNET.com. And this is the Lenovo T400S laptop. Now Lenovo has been known for its mainstream kind of boxy but iconic line of business notebooks for years now. And they haven't really changed that much in their overall kind of design concept. The T400S however is a thinner laptop. And you won't even really realize it until you pick one up for yourself. It weighs 4 pounds and is a much slimmer version of the T400 series that's been on the market already. Packed inside the T400S under the hood is a Core 2 duo processor that's pretty fast. It also has a solid-state drive for the hard drive. There's no discreet graphics to speak of, so it won't be really a gaming machine. But of course, that's not what you're going to be using your Think Pad for anyhow. It also has a wonderful battery on it. It lasts about 4 hours, which is more than enough to get the job done and it's pretty good for a laptop this thin. It does have a DVD burner off to the side, which is more than we could hope for. I mean Mac Book Air and other super thin laptops don't even have that function. Has a great feel on the keyboard and actually, the touch pad is fantastic. Not to get too excited about a touch pad, but the textured feel really creates a sense of accuracy and the multitouch movement is the, one of the best that we've seen on a Windows multitouch laptop. The 14.1 inch LED backlit screen is really nice and bright. And will display anything you need, will look really good in daylight plus the lid will open up to completely flat position which is just nice if you're making presentations. The port selection on the T400S has a little bit of a compromise to try to get into something this small. For instance, there's no SD card reader. That can be added on for 10 dollar by swapping out the included express card reader. And there are three USB ports. One of which happens to be a combo ESATA USB port. And there actually are two video output options. A VGA port and a display port. The Think Pad T400S also has a little rubbery track point, which is the Think Pad's iconic style. It may be kind of annoying if you're trying to type the G, H, or B keys, but it's a nice extra option. We can't really complain. Although honestly we're never going to use it. We're going to use that track pad almost all the time. The speaker volume has been increased considerably compared to the T400 line. And also the microphone input is now dual microphone and there's a dedicated wait button on the keyboard. So it just makes taking business calls on the laptop all that easier. Lenovo says that this T400S, which comes with a carbon fiber roll cage inside, is durable enough to be run over by a truck. So we're going to test it out, no I'm just kidding. We're not going to throw it against the wall. But we're tempted because this is an incredibly durable frame inside. And but we didn't run over it with a truck. One final thing to note about the T400S it isn't cheap. The base model is 1599 and the one we tested is configured ran almost 2000 dollars. So you are looking at a business executive price, not a budget price for this machine. But then again, that's who probably is going to be buying a Think Pad. You're going to be an executive and wants to travel light and have a full powered laptop to take with you. For that, the 400S is really hard to beat.
