HTC Hero Android smartphone
>>[background music] Hi I'm David Carnoy from CNET.com and I'm here with Jason McKenzie of HTC and we are with the new Hero smart phone. It features HTC's [background noise] sense user experience which is built over the Android platform. Kevin is going to highlight some of the key features of the new phone.
>>Kevin: [background noise] Alright well thank you. First thing you'll notice is the design, very unique design. It's built specifically to be able to see this across the room with the beveled edges. It's got the chin here which is a 15 degree angle. The whole point of that is, you know, it's got a great design but it's also, from a function standpoint, very comfortable to hold in your hand as well as put up to your face so very natural. This white version actually has a very soft feel which is unique for white devices. In a sense normally you see them they're glossy and shiny, this is more of a soft touch. And the way we're able to do that is with a Teflon feel. The screen has an anti fingerprint film over it so you won't get all that kind of smudge and grease that you normally see on a lot of touch screen devices. Traditionally what you see on an Android product today, a Google phone, is you have three different home screens. On ours we've incorporated seven. There's three principles that we're using, the first one is make it mine and what that's all about is personalization. This device is about you so you can easily add and customize the home screen to bring your content and services that are important to you. So for example if I want to have a calendar widget up here, that's live. I can choose from a big one or a small one. I'll choose this one, select. Now I've got it here. It's a touch keyboard. It's got smart dialer incorporated here so if I want to call someone you know I can just start dialing their name. The keyboard will be bold. It will have an accelerometer and go [inaudible talking]. I go in here to my contacts for example, so you see Joseph Miller. I have all of his contact information which is normal, which you'd expect to see. I've also incorporated the map functionality through Google Maps where I can just click a button and go find his home address or work address but here's what's really cool. I can slide these tabs and it shows me all the text messages I've received. Here's all the email that I would have received from Joseph would be in there filtered. The carriers actually we haven't announced yet so there's no announcement on that. Those will come out later but we will be bringing those to the U.S. later this year.
>>David: And no word exactly on what color it will be or
>>Kevin: Correct so color and finish is TBD. We're working with our partner right now on making those last decisions. [music]
