In most houses it's pretty tough to get a good view of water being piped in and out of the home.
Here are CNET appliances testing lab, we set up this contraption here to show how to not only detect floods from burst pipes but also how to minimize the damage resulting from them.
As you can see, we got this water main coming in here And running up this pipe to this gadget right here call the Fortrez-z Wireless Z-wave water valve.
Essentially this works the same way a ball valve does except it adds remote functionality and integration with our smart things hub.
Now And now I can shut off the water and turn the water back on using my phone but I can also do something even cooler.
With the smart things integration we can take the Fibraro flood sensor that we already have installed and when that sensor detects water We can have it end the message to the hub which in turns forwards that message to this valve right here.
Basically one of pipe burst a water sensor will detect it and it will tell this valve to shut off the water supply immediately.
Which will minimize potentially costly damages.
While this setup definitely won't protect against environmental floods like a sump pump would.
It will take action against burst pipes even if you're asleep or away from home.
