GameSpot's The Lobby: What's new in The Division patch 1.1

[MUSIC] So speaking of games with incremental updates for their fans, The Division got a little update this morning, the game that we've all kind of been playing in the office since it came out. I think I tape it off a little bit from the past couple weeks because there's been some interesting games coming out. [UNKNOWN] I feel like you sort of have the greatest handle on the division here in the office. You placed a new update this morning, is that right? Yeah, I went through incursion mode. That's the biggest chunk of it. The rest of it's more quality of life stuff. They're dropping guaranteed high end gear from Named Enemies in the Dark Zone. They've go the [UNKNOWN] Dark Zone which Tate managed to get ahold of. And then just all around they want to make sure that you are more easily acquiring the high end stuff. That gets you your, I don't know, like level up. Yeah. They have gearscore now which is essentially like light level. It's just light level. Okay. Does that apply to all gear or is that- Yes. It got changed across the board so it went from item level to gearscore. Score. Knowing vanity items basically, so you're [UNKNOWN] beanie doesn't count. [LAUGH] Dammit. What about my modern khakis. But in [UNKNOWN] itself was just one room, you versus 15 waves. Okay. In APC, quite frankly, it didn't really do it for me. Right, how long did it take you to complete it? So it was more, because I was playing on my own, it was more of a factor of matchmaking into the right group of people. Right. I spent probably an hour this morning or an hour and a half just having real bad luck- Yeah. like matchmaking into groups of people where either somebody would drop No. There's one level design flaw where if half your team drops but one person stays behind and dies, you can't get back up and revive them. Right. And- Sounds like some World of Warcraft nonsense right there. Yeah, and then getting kicked by some of the really higher end players. But once all that was out of the way, and I got into a group that kinda knew what was up, it was pretty smooth sailing. They knew the pattern It's real straightforward once you get it. It just involves running up the left side, planting a charge, going all the way back and then map killing everything and repeating a bunch of times. And then you get a piece of new armor? Set armor, yeah. Yeah, a new set armor, which they're also selling now in other places in the game, so you can get it from a high end vendor in the base. it should. I think that armour is also dropping on some high end named [UNKNOWN] too, right? I haven't seen it but you're supposed to be able to get [UNKNOWN] from multiple places so the encouragement is the place that you can get it from. It's kind of like the weekly event that you want to try to do because you'll get more rewards from it but you do get a guaranteed set item. But, yeah, you can get it from [UNKNOWN]. There's multiple sets. As well. It's very Diablo to be honest. And almost like Wowish too, because if you look at the gear score of the hard mode incursion, it's like if you did the LFR, looking for [UNKNOWN] version of WOW. And then if you do the challenging mode, which is really hard one, it's like all right you did the heroic version, and your score on this armor is actually that much higher than the other one. So borrowing a lot of those You had more trouble with matchmaking it sounds like? Yeah so I tried to do it with Rob and we scrubbed it up, I'll be honest. It was pretty frustrating just because we would have in two different instances of matchmaking, one or two guys would kind of run off on their own. because we're not on Voice Chat with them. Right. And they're trying to figure out how the Incursion itself works or end up doing their own thing. It's already pretty intense because there's a lot of mobs and turrets from the APC and it's like please don't go over there. I can't revive you because you're basically hamstringing us and because there's no checkpoints It's very punishing. Right. You can get four to five waves in and if somebody just goes wild card rogue or something. Which you tend to do once you've beaten four or five waves. Yeah, exactly and then you just say, great we're gonna start all over and it's just like super frustrating. Actually throw the curve ball on wave 15 too, where you go to arm the same way you've armed every other time and then a wave of guys come out. Right at that point. Right on top of it which it doesn't do at any other point so you can potentially get really disappointed because you go all the way to 15 and the game screwed you over. Damn is 15 the max? 15 is the hard I didn't go OK Is a challenging [UNKNOWN]. Fifteen's still the same. Yeah. It's just in challenging verses hard which it is right now. You usually have more elite, so basically they're higher level, have more [UNKNOWN]. Cool. And what other changes have happened that side of that I guess, that side of Just a quick note Tay looked at the top of the map and he saw that they actually have a place holder for the next dlc already too. Really? I think it's re update as well as this one so that the next Incursion, is just at the top of the moment. It's called like getting broken circle or something. Right. It's like hey, here's the next one, here's how much gear score you need and yeah, it'll be in the next free update. Do we have any idea when that's coming? Nope. Probably pre E3? Well so, I think the big DLC is June. Okay. So maybe May, maybe, yeah. Fingers crossed. But to get back to your point- Yeah, what are sort of stuff for the more I don't know, I played Destiny [CROSSTALK] I love that D, I can't remember which one. I played the division, like, very slow, methodical, sorta [UNKNOWN] kinda way, which is probably not [UNKNOWN] to play this game. Is there anything though that they've Changed in terms of just the general Yeah. play of the game. Yeah. So, for someone, especially like yourself, if you've been soloing, anyone that has soled knows how much shower it is and just how much longer it takes you to get through stuff and get your [UNKNOWN] level up and what not. So now they've kind of Like Aaron said, quality of life, a lot of quality of life stuff. They lowered a lot of the [UNKNOWN] zone rankings so that you could buy stuff faster so that you didn't have to grind so far to get stuff. Also, there's- There's almost half. Yeah, it's almost like half, and then 30 to 15 and what not. But there's also trading, so if you do play with a friend and he's like hey, I'm pretty geared out Danny, I have all these other high ends that I don't need, and you can gear up after. Is this Dark Zone specifically? No, you can do that in open Open word as well. Dark sun you do either have to extract it and then trade it or go into a check point and then trade it. They don't want trade like middle of the area. Yeah Have some guy go hey thanks for the week guys so. But those are in there. And then also just the biggest one really is high ends will guarantee drop off name bosses now. So you know when you kill something, you're gonna get something good. Wow, okay, so people must have got real pissed about [UNKNOWN] if they just decided, okay, 100% drop rate. No, I think it's, well, it's hard to say. From a hardcore perspective, maybe you're a little salty from all the time you spent farming up till now. Yeah. But it helps casual to medium hardcore players because now you feel like your time's Yeah, I find that really frustrating. Yeah. They also, they wanted to fundamentally change the way that people were playing this game. It was one of those things where they were motivating people to basically just scrap items the entire game until they got to the end game and then craft the one vector twenty times in a row until they got the perfect roll It was one of those things where, like we saw with the loot cave in Destiny, the developers just saying we had not intended people to play the game this way. Right, yeah. We wanted a more even split of people getting loot off killing bosses, off of vendors, and off of crafting. They didn't want to see this spike where everybody was just sacrificing the game to craft. Cuz it wasn't necessarily fun for a lot of players who didn't wanna just do loot runs around the dark zone. So it's their way of rebalancing out the loot system so that it's more rewarding for a variety of players. Players. Yeah, yeah. So [INAUDIBLE] to just in this Patch as well or update. It is more expensive to craft now but because you are getting so many more high end drops at a more frequent pace, it should kind of even itself out. But it's again a very Diablo thing where They saw that by increasing the amount of drops, players are having more fun. There's so much variance in this drops to begin with that like everyone is trying to min max at the end of the day really. Trying to get a perfect role but for a lot of people it's just like " yeah! I got a yellow!" like you feel the high of getting the high end and that's What they did with this and makes people happy right, that's what? They're all setting it by making the armor very specific though and in it stats, so you're only become more powerful if you have armor in the same type. Right. And then you'll become really get it one thing but you'll actually probably weak in another thing. So it's four different armor paths that get you really good at four different stings. So it's a way to elongate the grind. Everyone in the chatter although fighting between destiny divisions. [LAUGH] Also commenting on how lovely your hat is. Is that your hat in the gameplay? I did not have a hat. You didn't have a hat. [CROSSTALK] It was probably Rob. That was definitely Rob. Was it Rob? Yeah. Rob's gotta great hat. Yeah, a trapper hat. Yeah, we'll talk to Rob about his hat in a minute. Yeah. We're gonna get him on in a second to talk about Ratchet and Klein. Awesome. Before I let you guys go? Sure. Right now which game are you playing? I know it's. Making these binary things is always very silly, but once again we're going back to the moment [UNKNOWN] division and destiny, which is the one era that you're playing at the moment. [INAUDIBLE] No way. Yeah, yeah, sorry the other d, the third d. Yeah exactly. It's really hard for me. I almost have to gravitate more towards I know is playing the game. Right yeh yeah. A social thing right. For me I'm not at a point to have playing with like Rob or like Chris or someone amplifies that right. That will definitely influence my decision. I would say the PC answer for me sounds splitting fifty fifty the best I can. Okay But I can understand why division. Most people gravitate to because it's newer, it's stuff you don't understand. But like you're right, that's such a big part of these games, trying to make sure that their fan bases, their player bases are satiated is because, one of the main reasons you play these games is because of your friends. I mean, look at every game, look at Overwatch with us [UNKNOWN], or even [UNKNOWN], there's a threshold you reach passed and then once you're passed there I feel like people just are easier at playing that game, because there's like a group of people playing it. What about yourself [UNKNOWN]? Destiny is more punishing though to you as an individual player if your friends aren't there. Yes for sure. Division has for better or worse matchmaking for the mass majority of activities. Even in the dark zone you can matchmake in. You might get a crappy partner but. But you'll get some. That's literally why I just could not hang on to Destiny and the Division has sort of retained me a little bit more. Yeah you can solo it in a more fun manner. It's more friendly to you, that's the game I'm gonna stick with just because it's the newer of the two. Destiny again had this office for a full year, and I just think it's time to hang that up until they have something like actually significant. And if they ever want to get around to actually telling us the story of Destiny, like the Traveler, which was the entire thing in The Stranger, which was the entire thing in more than just like, here's a bad dude and here's his bad daddy. Yeah, cool. Once you want to tell me that story, I'd be happy to back and hear it again. Speaking of which, we're gonna the guys to talk about time flaws. Let's get those jerks in there.
