October 2011, Apple updated the iPod Nano software and changed the look of the home screen.
Instead of grouping apps together in a grid of 4, the Nano now defaults to view apps one at a time.
But if you miss the old grid view, here's how to change it back.
Go to the iPod Settings menu and select General, then select Home Screen
and tap the switch for small icons and your Nano will go back to the old main menu style.
While you're here, take a minute to look at some of the other options for customizing the menu.
You can switch off features that you never use to help streamline things or you can add icons for music features like genres to quickly jump into different music styles.
Finally, whether you're in the grid view or the new one-icon view, you can rearrange the order of the main menu navigation by pressing and holding the screen until the icons jiggle around
and then grab them to a new order and then hit the Sleep button at the top to set them in place.
So there you go, that's how to customize the home screen on an iPod Nano.
