Rapid development: Lucid Air electric car debuts with 1,000 horsepower

Lucid Motors just announced itself as a company in October, and now here in December, they're showing off their first car, the Lucid Air.
This is an electric car, and the company has really tried to reimagine what a car is, using digital electronics and electric drive technology So for example, with this car, the electric drive technology lets them have the exterior of the car be more like a medium sized sedan but the interior feel like a large sedan.
In fact, the company is offering an optional rear seat that's inspired by executive jets.
Those rear seats recline, taking advantage of the space left over when you don't have a lot of combustion engine gear inside the car.
As for that electric drivetrain, there is an electric motor at the rear, electric motor at the front, so all-wheel drive, plus a big 100 kilowatt hour battery in the middle.
Now that means 1000 horsepower, 0 to 60 they say maybe 2.5 sec Seconds and a range of well over 300 miles.
And they'll have an option of a bigger battery pack come in 30 kilowatt-hours, that will give you over 400 miles.
But the Lucid Air's not just an electric car.
Lucid has also designed all other aspects of a modern car.
Into it.
They've got autonomous features, they've got a fully realized infotainment system with LCD panels across the entire dashboard and a large quatre cell LCD on the console.
That'll show your driver information and infotainment features if you're actually driving, because for the autonomous features, they use radar, lidar, and a camera, all working together to drive the car itself.
So watch for the car is capable with this Some, although probably not totally autonomous until some months later.
I experienced a drive in a prototype version of this car.
I experienced its quick acceleration and some of its autonomous features.
So all this development is going on right now.
The company also signed a deal for a manufacturing plant in Arizona, but the first cars won't roll off the lines til 2018.
It's gonna be a little while till we see one, but this company is developing rapidly.
