We all know the big elephant in!
Or should I say the 600 pound snorlax in the room.
Well done.
Someone called me a snorlax today!
For real?
They were like.
I said what Pokemon do I remind you of?
He goes, Snorlax.
I look up Snorlax.
Frigging it's a Pokemon that sleeps all day, and it's like a fat mess.
It's a big one.
[LAUGH]
Yeah.
Thanks friend.
[LAUGH]
Pokemon GO has had a huge week, and we just have to talk about it just a little bit.
If you've got a question or comment about Pokemon GO.
You obviously do cuz you Your playing it right now probably on your other phone?
I don't know.
Who knows?>> Anyway, make sure you chime in and we'll get to as many questions and/or comments as we can.
So, Pham Jake, tell me about your thoughts, your passions, your dreams, your hopes, with Pokemon Go.
So, specifically does mine go?
Yeah.
Okay, not like [INAUDIBLE].
Well there is another show for that.
Okay.
But yeah, have you been playing it?
I, specifically, have not been playing because then I wouldn't do any of my work.
Okay.
However, I went out and two of my friends left the bar to go find Pokemon.
What I am thinking though is that these gyms, that what they're called?
Don't you like.
Can't you meet other Pokemon players?
Yes.
I'm waiting for the first love story to come out of this.
That's definitely happened.
It's definitely been one night Pokemon Go stand.
Yeah, there should be, like.
I can't wait till, inevitably someone, there will be a couple that gets married.
They'll have kids and then [INAUDIBLE] they grow up, hey mom and dad, how did you meet?
Well, There was a Bulbasaur in Central Park.
You and your mother.
I couldn't let it go.
And just like that our love blossomed.
And that's how it all worked.
And then you came around five years later.
Haha.
Haha.
Yeah, so I [INAUDIBLE] I haven't been playing a lot, I've seen it, it's not on my phone, because like you said, I need to have a life.
I can't be bothered with Squirtles and whatnot.
Jigglypuffs, which are my favorite.
[UNKNOWN] So you can be tough.
But what about you Jake, have you been playing around?
I haven't played.
I download it yesterday.
[INAUDIBLE] like the humans and Pokemon stories.
So we went ahead and do that.
Some people are like really into it.
We met some people from Italy who like came over and like we're waiting for it to be released.
But we don't have this in Italy.
They heard the news and they got really excited.
But some people like saying there like a whole community Pretty crazy to see like how.
I think it's definitely worth appreciating the social phenomenon it has created right.
Where you have a thing that everyone can play right.
Mostly if you've got a smartphone you can do it.
You can be apart of The whole party.
Right?
So I think that is something really special.
That most games don't really.
That was a big thing is that you get out.
And somebody said it gave them something to do while they were walking around.
[CROSSTALK] And seeing a beautiful city like New York, that's boring.
Yeah, can't do that.
Can't do that.
But they're branding it as AR, like augmented reality.
But it's not really AR because you have to be in the app all the time
[CROSSTALK]
And you're walking it, it needs to be open.
When you're walking for anything to evolve.
Sure.
And it only goes into AR when a Pokemon approaches.
Yeah.
It's just a regular overlay.
It's like a map but doesn't really show.
Right, right, which makes sense.
I mean, the whole sort of accessibility, like most people, two weeks ago if you said, hey, what's AR?
They'd like, I don't know what you dude are talking about.
Right, they have no idea
At the very least, if this has done anything to educate the public it is that, AR?
This is what it is.
Whenever I now need to convey that idea, that concept, to somebody, I'm like, you do Pokemon Go.
Right?
That's AR, the overlay on top of the real world.
Which I think is pretty cool.
What else?
How long do you think this lasts, lets be honest.
I say a month.
You think we've got a month left.
I think so.
Probably..
Okay.
Pam?
I say three and a half weeks.
Under, okay.
I feel like in two weeks it's not really gonna be much of a thing.
I don't know.
We can.
I feel like it's taking up too much time.
Like as people are leaving, someone got in a car crash.
Yeah.
I mean.
Miserable awful things could happen.
Yeah, that stuff been happening unfortunately.
And it's kind of evolved, there were some stories yesterday that business owners are paying to have the owners of the gyms come to them.
But then I feel it's interrupting the experience for the true players of the game.
They don't want to have to go in and have to pay to catch a Pokemon.
No that's real bad.
It's not going to be good for them, it's cutting them out.
And I think
See?
I think for the next two weeks, well over three weeks up to a month, we'll have that sort of hangover.
But then don't forget all the copycat stuff.
Yeah.
Like if you're a developer, a mobile developer, and you've been even been thinking about doing something with AR, you're all over that.
Yeah now's the time.
Rushing to get that out, get it certified and get it put in the store.
So I'm excited about that though to see more AR games.
Yeah.
I mean, I'm all down for that.
Okay, very cool.
We got some questions about Pokemon GO, some comments.
Let's toss it to Mike in the control room.
All right.
So Jason in our chat commented on that his wife is 29 and pregnant, but it's not stopping her from hunting Pokemon in this game.
Cesar
Wants to know what you guys think about the Pokemon Go Plus, the wristband accessory.
And Pablo is also asking how far do you think Pokemon Go will go?
Yeah, I think we answered that last one.
I mean, personally, and I don't wanna be like the guy hating on Pokemon, cuz they're, I think it's at the end of the day kinda cool, but I just needed, instead of a ten it needed to be like a six.
yeah little to much in my favor now.
Let's all maybe I don't know think about real life for a second.
And just keep it going as long as they're value as like millions of dollars I think, they're gonna push it as much as they can.
Even if it does down they're gonna be putting out updates for it and they'll try to fix it.
It'll definitely be updated.
There'll be new features and what not.
What about the risks...
Accessory, do you know much about that?
I think they're regularly like 35, 40 bucks.
But they're on eBay for like $300, $500.
And essentially it adds another element to the game.
All right.
Do you know what it does?
Cuz I'm not super familiar with it.
I think it allows you to catch Pokemon when your phone is not there.
See that'd actually be a good--
I think that's what it is.
To have something while your phone's not on, or at least not open with the app, that would be
Looks like a play.
He's not gonna like that.
Did you know that Pokemon means pocket monsters?
What's that?
Pokemon means pocket monsters.
I thought it was a made up.
That's pretty cool.
The more you know.
Thanks Sam for that little nugget of info.
Speaking of Nintendo.
Nintendo announced.
Yes.
A brand new micro-console.
It's so cute.
I believe the NES is probably older than the both of you.
Yes.
Which give me a moment of silence for.
That's really weird.
Anyway, so there was this game system in the 80s, and it was called the NES.
It was like the first major home console and they're re-releasing this as a $60.00 little device packed in with 30 games.
This is really cool stuff.
Have you guys played?
I've played the games.
I mean doesn't that seem like a good deal to get that many games?
I think it's a pretty good deal.
I think, for me, you look at the game that they're offering.
It's 30 games.
A lot of that stuff is spread out on the virtual consoles and stuff that they've been offering the last couple of years on the Wii, the Wii-U, the DS, the 3DS.
I think it's a really nice idea to get all of that consolidated into one thing.
Another cool thing, the little mini-NES has It's important that which control has so you can likely plug in any of those old pro-control or any of those accessories that you might have for use.
You pop it in there and you are good to go.
And also comes to the original square, rectangle any other control and other one, I feel like it's 60 box but it acts like 60 dollar like I almost want to call it a stocking stuffer sort of thing.
Yeah.
It's got the packaging for a stocking stuffer.
Yeah, it's tiny.
A lot of stars and graphics and I get it, this is like the checkout line at Target or something like that.
[LAUGH]
So I think it's actually a really cool idea.
Are you guys into it?
I think it's going to be- I'm excited for Donkey Kong.
Yeah.
I think it's going to be popular.
A lot of my friends at college are-
Yeah, in college people just-
They're going to put their money down and just plug it right into the TV-
Yeah, right, and the size- they're probably going to release a yellow one and a blue one-
they'll do that.
