Japan based phone maker Kyocera demos two devices, a saltwater resistant phone called the Torque Go2 and another handset you can wash with soap.
These phones have been out for a few months now in Japan, and while they're not necessarily new, they're indicative of where the industry is heading when it comes to waterproof handsets A lot of waterproof phones you hear about, like the most recent Samsung Galaxy S7, are only protected against fresh water.
So don't think about taking it into the ocean.
Salt has corrosive elements, and can render the seals over gaskets inside brittle, and soap has detergents that can dry out these materials too.
But with these devices [UNKNOWN] is trying to widen the scope of where we can physically take our phones.
So for example, if you get your hands really dirty and greasy, you can just do this.

Currently, phone like the Torque J-02 are kind of niche and demand for them in low outside Japan, There's also a lot to be done still.
Surviving a dunk is one thing, but actually being fully usable is another story.
