>> Hi, I'm Donald Bell, Senior Editor for Digital Audio and MP3. And today is a lucky day. Apple must love CNET because we just got the new Apple iPhone Nano. This is incredible. Actually just kidding. It's not an iPhone at all. This is called the Slicker. It is a two gigabyte flash based portable video player, MP3 player. We weren't really too impressed. It looks really beautiful. But in order to get to that touch screen aesthetic without actually putting a touch screen on here, they moved all the navigation controls to the top of the player. A series of black on black button. Little tiny buttons that for the life of us, even after two days, three days of using this player we still couldn't quite remember which ones are the volume buttons, which ones were the track, skip buttons. It was pretty frustrating to use. Aside from that, the video player function of the Slicker is pretty useful. It's a 2 point 8 inch color screen. The viewing angles for video are pretty poor. So that was a little bit upsetting. Also there's no resume function or video book marking function on the video player. So if you stop your movie half way through, you're going to have to fast forward back to the place where you left off. So that's a little bit of a bummer. It's only 129 dollars, though. So you'll take a lot of the defaults with a grain of salt. It's one of the most affordable portable video players out there with a 2 point 8 inch LCD screen. So that's good. One of the biggest disappointments really of this player is the MP3 function. It is really one of the most bare bones MP3 players you could imagine. There's no ID3 tag support, so if you're playing a song it's just going to display the literal file name of that song. Two of the things that really save this player though are the fact that it is expandable. It has built in 2 gigabytes of memory, but you can expand it using mini SD cards. We also like the fact that there's a little built in speaker on here. Beyond it having a decent video player, the Slicker is really more Flash than substance. There's not a lot here. If you spend maybe 20, 30, 40 more dollars on an MP3 player, you can get something really great like the Cohen D2 or the I River Clicks. It is a fun player to buy though. For 130 dollars it might be worth buying just to prank your friends into thinking that you have the new iPhone Nano. So with that, I'm Donald Bell and that was the first look at the Vinzero Slicker.
