Hey everybody. I'm Molly Wood. Its April 30th, 2008. Here's what
happened today in tech. history.
Today ... television! On this date in 1939, NBC, which was owned by RCA, began regularly
scheduled television service from its New York station. The first broadcast? The opening
ceremonies of the 1939 New York World's Fair.
During broadcasts that very same day, Franklin D. Roosevelt became the first President of the
United States to appear on television.__
Oh, and on this day in 1993, a little thing called the World Wide Web was born. It was
developed by Tim Berners-Lee, and based on the concept of hypertext. The World Wide Web
project was designed to help researchers share information, and was developed as a CERN
project called ENQUIRE. CERN, by the way, is the European Organization for Nuclear Research
and the worlds largest particle physics laboratory. The World Wide Web, by the way, went on
to change the world as you know it. So, you know. Pretty big day.
And that seems like a good place to end! See you tomorrow, history buffs.
