The toughest iPhone XR case at CES 2019

[MUSIC]. Hello and welcome Welcome back to CNet's live coverage of CES 2019, I'm Vanessa Hand Orellana. And I'm Lexy Savvides. And this is and this Breaking Point our live drop test where we determine who has the toughest iPhone case and Lexi, we have quite the crowd out here. What a crowd ladies and gentlemen the peak of CES. Thank you for joining us today, [APPLAUSE] You're all rock stars, we have ten contestants willing to take their cases to extreme heights. Please welcome, Gilock by Spigon, Casology, Piogia, Griffin, OWUC, Sketch and Catalyst, and last year's winners looking to reclaim their crown; Zizo, i-Blason and Pelican. These are a courageous group of people here, and so here's how it's gonna work. We asked each company to bring their toughest case. And a brand new iPhone 10R that they are gonna be testing inside of the case. So we are gonna drop them to the [INAUDIBLE] from 6, 10, 15 and finally 20 feet, to see which one survives. Then of we need a [INAUDIBLE] break up, this is fun, we got to take it to the next level. With our cannon ball right there. Right there. I'm really hoping that we're gonna get this far because this is gonna be an amazing show if we can get to this. Yeah. [LAUGH] So before we start, here's how you get disqualified. Cracks on the glass of any kind, no matter what the size. Now this includes the camera lens or any issues with the touchscreen. So basically if the phone doesn't work your out. Exactly right, you can see on the screen we have all of the disqualification criteria right there. We're going to start by dropping them at six feet and screen protectors are only allowed if they are sold with the case. So are you ready to see us drop some phones? [APPLAUSE] Yeah. This is honestly, one of my favorite things at CES, and it's not because I love dropping things. But this is just one of the most exciting shows. At least we're kind of bias but at the CNET stage so. I think we can do better guys. Come on, you wanna see us drop some phones. [APPLAUSE] There I love the enthusiasm. So Vanessa you're gonna be our drop test queen today. The queen of breaking things. I think we tied for the crown. But I think you probably win in terms of all the phones that you've ever broken on Breaking Point for CNET. I now include it on my resume. Great at breaking stuff. Okay Vanessa it's time for you to get on that lift. This is where I say goodbye. The NASA is gonna head on to this [INAUDIBLE] right [INAUDIBLE] Yes. [INAUDIBLE] she gets up to the [INAUDIBLE], all right [LAUGH] [INAUDIBLE] so we are only starting at six phase. And the reason we are starting at six phase Venessa maybe you'd like to fill us in on why we are starting->> Yeah. So, I break a lot of phones at CNet, but mainly just to kind of test them, so we did a test of the iPhone 10R on concrete at our CNet offices without a case, and it actually survived at least the first drop from Five feet, so we figure if you have a case on it and it survives without a case at five feet, we might as well start at six feet, so they're all starting today at that height. Just because it had already survived without a case. Exactly. Who do we have first Lexi? Essentially you're dropping it from my head height, okay. I would like to step up to the stage, our very first contestant, Zizo. Round of applause guys, come on. Round of applause, okay. Now you were one of the winners from last year, and now you have to tell us in 60 seconds what makes your case so tough, and what makes it so great So this is the [UNKNOWN] phone cover. There is no way to make each drop exactly the same. So this is not really a scientific test. We're just having some fun here and testing it real world scenarios. And a lot of these cases are not actually rated to drop at this height. So, we're just having fun with it. So, with that in mind we're gonna start with [UNKNOWN] at six feet, screen side down because let's be honest that's what you care about the most. And I'm gonna try to drop it exactly screen side down, right here in six feet. So help me count down, we're gonna do three, two, one, drop. Three, two, one, drop. All right, in three, two, one, drop. [SOUND] Ooh. That did not- That did not sound good. [LAUGH] All right. [LAUGH] Echie, do the honors. I'm so scared. Now, Brian is gonna help us take the phone out of the case to do the inspection. The screen looks like it's functioning. There's a little bit of dirt. No scratches. Any cracks? No cracks that I can see on the back. Take a closer look there. The camera looks fine. Let me just switch over, and open it up. It looks fine. We have a surivor I think at six feet. Survivor at six feet. It also landed right in the intersection of the tiles. It did. So I'm kind of scared. Don't be scared the screen is totally fine. Really? It's totally fine. Nice. No scratches the camera opens fine and looks clear. No cracks on the back or the camera either. Well done, ten feet for Sketch. Wow, okay, we have one more left at ten feet. That's Catalyst. That is supposed to be stronger than dropping it, or the force of it is more than dropping it from the 20 feet. Can we drop it from four feet. Four feet. Right. Which is where we're starting. We gonna make the call and we gonna be brutal because honestly they're so good so it's still perfectly fine It's just a little mark on the screen, but its survived 20 feet that a amazing.
