The Aston Martin Valhalla promises to give the competition a run for its money

Speaker 1: While the screaming Valery was distracting. Everyone at the Goodwood festival speed this year, the brutish Victor was standing guard over another secret Aston Martin tucked away behind high walls, upper flight of stairs and down a dark corridor was a car that some thought might never see the light of day. But after a bit of a revamp with a new eight cylinder engine, a new eight speed gear box [00:00:30] revised looks and a lower price, it's back Speaker 2: Welcome to rebirth of Val Speaker 3: Halla. Speaker 1: The carbon tub remains [00:01:00] and the overall aesthetic is vague, familiar, but a huge amount has changed under the mostly carbon skin. One of Speaker 2: The things I think it's worth mentioning of the outset is that the price has come down. Normally I'd save this to the end, but this is, is not gonna be a limited model anymore. I mean, it will be built in fairly more numbers fairly, obviously, because not that many people can afford a car that's gonna cost between 600, hundred, 700,000 pounds. But that's well significantly down from the million that it was projected to cost before. Anyway, [00:01:30] starting so big thing at the front is that we've now got this veined grill here. So it's, it's arguably a much more recognizable Aston Martin face on this car. Still a obviously got all the air going here, movable split down here. So we've got active air on this car air coming up out of there. And this is taking as the other one was, um, inspiration from the Valery. Um, particularly we've seen one of the updates to valry was, [00:02:00] uh, the venting wheel arches on the inside here. And that has this here. Some channeling the air down the side here, and they've got the side strikes on the side as well. We have got some central lock wheels. We've got a staggered wheel size. So we've got twenties at the front 20 ones at the rear two 80 fives at the front. So these tires aren't quite representative. It's having bespoke Michelin tires developed two, four front three, three fives at the Speaker 1: Back nestling behind those forged rims are carbon ceramic [00:02:30] matrix discs, and the Val halo will have break by wire technology. It will also come with a host of driver assistance systems, such as active cruise control forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring, and a rear view parking camera. A nose lift system will be included to tackling the awkward inclines, the Speaker 2: Interior we can't see at the moment, but that's gonna change in concept, uh, slightly from before. So the main thing is that you're still gonna have a tub seat. So it's gonna be, you are gonna sit there and the wheel and [00:03:00] the pedals will move to, to meet you. And each owner will be fitted for their seat and you're still gonna get that lovely feeling. Cause one of the things I really liked about the, um, the concept car has been now calling it is the fact that you had your, your feet just slightly above your hips in the car. So it wasn't as extreme as Valery, but it still that really special to sit in that car. And if you remember that had just a, basically a holder for a mobile phone, whereas this is gonna have a proper entertainment system. It's all gonna be sort of fairly paired back, I think. Speaker 2: [00:03:30] Um, but it's also gonna have all bespoke switch kits. You're not gonna get any Mercedes stuff in here. Moving down side of the cars, say, I love this strike. They've incorporated here. Huge amounts of air being channeled into here for the radiators. And then we've got this vortex generator down here, which the idea being to, you know, basically jet the air away from the real wheels I'll come onto down force figures, um, a bit up in the top roof scoop that's changed quite a bit. So we've got, [00:04:00] um, two colors in the side and then obviously, uh, induction straight through the middle, there again, a huge amount of cooling with the, the vents down here. And what is it cooling we should get with that? Shouldn't we really, the engine under here previously, it was V6 that as Martin was gonna develop itself, but that was gonna take a huge amount of money. Speaker 2: And BS motors came in basically when well I've got this engine that I had at Mercedes and mg. That's fantastic. So four liter twin tur charged VH. You're thinking that sounds [00:04:30] awfully familiar, flat playing crank. So that's essentially the engine from the black series, but again, because there's now a sort of a, a tighter bond between ASTA Martin and, and Mercedes and AMG, it will be developed with hearing sort of, to be a much more sort of bespoke engine for Aston Martin. Um, we've obviously seen that in the past with things like sort of Bani obviously has used Mercedes AMG engines for years and years, and they'll be really complained about that. So it'll be interesting to see what they make that engine into. That's gonna develop [00:05:00] 741 break horsepower. So 750 PS, then we've got two electric motions, one in the front, one in the rear and the batteries for those sit about here and they add another 201 break horsepower. Speaker 2: So we've got a maximum output of 941 break horsepower and a thousand new meters. The gear box, which sits at the back is wholly new for this car. So it's being developed by Graciano, a new [00:05:30] HB D C T gear box. And the clever thing about this is that because obviously you've got two clutches. Um, you can have the electric, most the rear running off gear and the engine running off another gear. We'll find out more about that. I suspect as we go down the line just before we move away, we've obviously got the top exit exhausts here, which look very cool, but also leave the rear of the car free for, so this rear [00:06:00] wing now is more conventional. It's gonna move up and down. It's gonna act as an air break in certain situations as well. You may remember that the previous car had that sort of flexible skin. Speaker 2: It's still a very clean car over the top in terms of its sort of arrow. Um, so it's not quite clean as the, the concept, but still, yeah, they're trying to avoid having too many sort of bits sticking up. They want to keep the arrow underneath the car, as you can see from this frankly, enormous rear diffuse with the vent [00:06:30] tunnels of the back here. So the gear box is in here and then just, yeah, that's just enormous. And, and downforce of saying is going to be over 600 kilos at 150 miles an hour. I suspect it might actually rise from that. Um, when they finally sort of put all the, the figures together because yeah, can't imagine it's not gonna be more than that with when you see this and projected, uh, performance figures then sort [00:07:00] of 217 miles an hour, 330 kilometers an hour, top speed, not 62 and two and a half seconds. And the big sort of performance figure I suppose, is that they're projecting a numbering lap time of six minutes, 30 seconds, which is, is fairly insane. To Speaker 1: Be honest, that time will presumably be achieved in the Val Hall's track mode, which will apparently significantly reduce the right height to maximize down force the adaptive spring and dam [00:07:30] that will allow it to do this will be provided by Multimatic Speaker 2: The weight of the car while they're aiming free dry weight at 1550 kilos, which is, you know, obviously not that light, but then is light given all of the hybrid stuff in the car Speaker 1: For comparison. The similarly hybridized Ferrari SF 90 has a dry weight in standard trim of 1,670 kilos. However, the Italian does claim an electric only range of 26 kilometers compared just 15 for [00:08:00] the Val Halla. It's a small step then towards Aston's first full production EV sports car, which is due in the middle of the decade. The hybrid systems in this are definitely aimed at performance then, but apparently a very involving kind of performance Speaker 2: For all that. They want it to be very much a driver's car, despite all technology underneath. They want it to feel very much sort of, you know, really connected to the driver, really enjoyable to drive suspension. Multilink set up at the rear. We got push one [00:08:30] front suspension, um, taking inspiration, obviously from the F1 car dhal doors still, still got the theater of those. And yeah, I'm glad that this car hasn't just died of death, perhaps appropriate as that would've been for the name, Val Halla Speaker 1: Deliveries are still a way off yet scheduled as they are for the end of 2023, plenty of time for Matt Becker and of course, V stroll and Halberg to hone [00:09:00] the characteristics of the new EDIF for now. I've been intrigued to know what you think. Do you like the looks, can you see a bit of X, J two 20 in that rear wing? Or is it just me? Are you pleased that it's got a V eight instead of a V six, let us know in the comments down below and do please subscribe to the car affection channel. If you haven't already help us hit that magic million mark, it really would be much appreciated.
