>> Hi, I'm Rich Brown, Senior Editor for CNET.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the Shuttle KPC K-4800. Now as you can see this is a small form factor desktop. It actually runs in Linux and it's very, very expensive, some $300 to start with. You can configure it with a few options, you can pump up the hard drive, add some more memory, wireless networking. This here is the basic, basic model, there's no Wi-Fi, only the 80-gig hard drive. It's really a small little PC designed for the most casually user. As you can see on the front, it's pretty bare-bones. There's a DVD drive, it's also a CD-RW burner. But that's about it. There's no ports, there's no media card reader, that's kind of one of the drawbacks of the system. It's so small and you know, they probably could be a little more aggressive on this design , but it's really only intended to be a very simple computer. Now on the back panel, there's a little bit more going on, but it's still pretty simple. You got a handful of USB slots, a network inputs, two different video ports, that's nice, but that's about it. There's no external serial ATA, there's no FireWire, no HDMI, none of more advanced features you've come to expect from a modern PC. Once you slide the top off you can take a look inside, again there's not much going on. There's no room for expansion, there's no PCI card slots or anything like that. You can see here's the memory, you get two slots there. There's one hard drive here, a room for another one up above it. And here's the optical drive. That's pretty much the story, there's the CPU right here. Naturally the system is nice and quiet, it's, you know not very powerful, so it doesn't need to pump out a lot of energy. At the same time, we found out that it kind of bumps up against the $300 Windows PCs. You can get this system with Windows, but the other ones are the more mainstream models that you'll find in Best Buy. You have more hard ware for the dollar. So even if you wanna buy one of these and strip it down, put a new OS on here, whatever you wanna do with it, you'll find that, you know mainstream computers really are a better deal than this system. So I'm Rich Brown and this is the Shuttle KPC K-4800.
