Samsung's Atmos soundbar offers big sound, fewer boxes
If you own or a buying a Samsung TV then you're probably interested in a matching audio system.
This year the company has made the choice even easier buy Q70TV and get the HW-Q70 sound bar done.
However, you can still buy the Q 70.
If you don't have that specific model, or don't even have a Samsung TV at all.
This a Dolby Atmos soundbar and it brings a dimension of height to your TV and movie soundtracks.
The Samsung offers excellently enveloping movie surround from a single bar.
The speaker shoots audio out the top drivers to a specialized audio filter and then bounces it off your living room walls.
The design is minimalist But more fun than in previous years with its gun metal grille and angled edges.
The one thing the company hasn't changed is the LED screen which is still sadly hard to read.
The system includes a wireless subwoofer, which is much larger than that which comes with most equivalently sized systems.
This is a smart sound bar and offers compatibility with Samsung SmartThings app as well as control via a separate Amazon Alexa device.
The sidebar includes an HDMI in HDMI out digital optical, Bluetooth and Wi Fi.
Like most speakers of its kind, it's much more suited to movies than it is music.
And to reinforce this fact it doesn't have a dedicated music or stereo mode compared against the rival LGSL nine sound bar.
The Samsung was able to generate a much bigger sound field with movies, movies mixed with an Atmos soundtrack like the rereleased Black Hawk Down Offered overhead effects that were really convincing.
The Samsung's not the best music, it was still able to keep up with the OG particularly on atmospheric tunes.
While you can get more bang for your buck out of a Vizio surround system for example, the HWQ 70 does offer a convenient way to get Atmos around with a minimum of boxes.
