>> More and more clothing companies are trying their hand at headphone design, some with more success than others. The latest to enter the fray is woman's surfer maker Roxy, which is paired with JBL to bring a line of fashion friendly ear phones to young women of extreme sport persuasion. Here we have the priciest model on the line, which is the $70 on air style Reference 430 headphones. This set comes in a choice of two color combos. You have the pink and orange version that I'm holding in my hand here, and there's also a blue and green combo. Roxy has decked out the ear cups with the company logo and splashed the headband with a pretty branch and leaf detail. Although the overall look is cute, the construction of the headphones is plastic, and it comes off feeling kind of cheap, and perhaps not that durable in the long run. Actually I wouldn't be surprised if the Roxy logo here on the side chipped off rather quickly. Another concern for me is the padding on the ear cups. It is pretty soft, but I found the felt like material made my ears itch after less than an hour of wear. That being said, the rubber-coated cable is quite thick. It feels like it would be durable and it doesn't tangle very easily. And I'm also a fan of the included carrying pouch, which has this nice Roxy design on the bottom here. Also the audio comes through clear and balanced, but bass addicts will probably be a little bit disappointed. These weren't as thumping as some other models we've heard. So surfer girls who can get past the down sides should be pleased with the colorful cali style. I'm Jasmine France and this has been the Roxy Reference 430 headphone.
