Rage 2 preview: Wasteland Walkers gone wild
Imagine if Doom and Just Cause had a demon baby in the world of Mad Max.
That's RAGE 2. But RAGE 2 marks a significant evolution in the game setting.
It's still a post apocalyptic wasteland, to be sure, but it's evolved a bit.
Getting a massive injection of over the top neon flashiness the original game wasn't exactly known for.
On top of that, Rage 2's protagonist ,Walker, has his, or her, own voice this time.
So you play as Walker.
And you can play as a male walker or a female walker.
And we wanted to give walker a voice so they could help you the player understand the world, give context to what you're doing, explain some of the events that happen.
Maybe in Rage 1, if you haven't played, and really gives more personality to the experience.
Wasn't that bad, the outpost is cleared out.
All the creeps are done crawling.
There are four core abilities in Rage 2 to use as a foundation for causing mayhem.
Ground slam where you leap at the air and come back with authority..
Shatter, which flings enemies away from you.
Vortex grenade as sort of small black hole that drags foes together, and barrier which is your shield On top of those abilities there are a veritable [UNKNOWN] Board of weapon, drones, grenades, vehicles and other fun things around to layer on top giving you the option of getting really creative with your attack combos
I believe that we will see really cool YouTube videos that people do things that I never expected especially with the [UNKNOWN] on to Objects and sending those flying or moved in together and blowing them up.
It's pretty cool.
The original Rage featured nano [UNKNOWN] and its heroes Bloodstream.
In Rage 2 nano [UNKNOWN] can do whole lot more in the way of giving you insane power boosts when you need it the most.
Overdrive made tougher fights really fun instead of feeling like I had to constantly pick off a couple enemies, retreat and then regroup.
The world is wide open in Rage 2 and features more diverse ecosystems.
You're probably thinking, "Wait a minute.
Creative ways to kill enemies, diverse biomes, open world.
I've played this game before." And you'd be right, sort of.
Rage 2 was developed in collaboration in with Avalanche Studios and uses the same Apex Engine we enjoyed in Just Cause 4. Combat feels a bit less considered here but that's not actually a bad thing.
Think about it, Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake.
If there was an olympics for running gun first person shooters, each software would have a lot of gold medals at this point.
So I think we can trust them on this one.
[SOUND] Rage 2 drops for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on May 14th.
