On today's show, a plan to clean up space trash that kind of looks like Pac-Man, a 3D printed bridge that's gonna be the first of its kind in the whole world. Plus a Hans Solo spin-off that we're gonna tell you all about. Punch it Chewie. [NOISE] Tomorrow Daily. [MUSIC] Greetings, citizens of the internet. Welcome to Tomorrow Daily, the best geek talk show in the known universe. I'm Ashley Esqueda. Joining me for the first time on the show, a friend of mine, a dear friend of mine, a colleague, an ex alumnus of the same college. Cameron Lewis joining us. And also, world's worst Wookie impersonator. very throaty, I know. A little phlegmy. I know. [LAUGH] You've got time though. Force Awakens doesn't come out for at least another few months. I know. You're good, you're good. And we're going to talk about Han Solo too. Bt, okay really quickly before we Before we move onto the headlines, let's tell everybody at home who you are and who are you and what does your daddy do? Wow. Yeah. My daddy is actually an engineer, so I'm a little nervous about the bridge thing we're gonna talk about today. Well, okay. Well, then you'll have to show him this show and ask him about this 3D printed steel bridge. I absolutely will because I think he's gonna have some doubts about it. I am a radio host and an entertainment host. I do some shows at After Budget TV, Indie 100 Radio and my own podcast, called the Cameron Lewis Show. You guys can check it out on iTunes Like that, and a good friend of yours. Yeah, a good friend. I've been on this guy's podcast if you want to go listen to it. It's a good one. Super good, and really, really fun. Okay guys, we have got a lot to talk about, so let's look at the headlines. All right, we're gonna get to Han Solo in a second, but let's just really quickly talk about space trash. We just got this on the show before. There is a lot of trash up in our orbit. Apparently, NASA estimates over 500,000 bits of trash, bigger than the size of a marble. So, some pieces are not so big, but still dangerous. We've all seen gravity, you guys. We know what happens when space trash gets out of control. Not good. No, never good. So a lot of different groups and people are trying to figure out how to clean that stuff up and still keep it safe. And so this was a pretty interesting proposal, here. This is from the epfl, they want to create a project. They started this project back in 2012. It's called clean space one. The satellite that they plan on, and you can see that this is how it's gonna work, it's gonna reach out this little net and it's gonna grab space trash. And then it's gonna fling into Earth's atmosphere and burn it up on re-entry. I like that that's the solution, just throw it back at us. Throw it back at us. Well I wish that, maybe that happened to litterers. Like if, is it trash? They threw it out and they just threw right back in their car or something. I think it'd be hilarious. I think it's a fantastic plan. But yeah, so okay, so that little cube there is actually, it's called Swiftcube and it's up in space. And they launched in up there a while ago. And what they wanna do with this little ten centimeter cube, they wanna go get it. The plan is to go get it in a couple of years. So they're gonna go and extend this sort of net cuz before they wanted to use like a claw from like a claw machine. And then they wanted to use other ways, but then they kinda discovered that almost eating it like Pac-Man was the way to go. they would go and this net would eat this stuff. they would take it, you can see it's flying back down and burn on reentry. Isn't this a cross promotion for that new movie, Pixels? It's got to be right? That is what is going on here. You are not fooling us. You are not fooling us. Movies, videos. But it's interesting enough, there is a lot of precision involved if they are going to make this work. They want to They've announced official plans as of yesterday to do this mission in 2018. They're gonna launch this mission in 2018. So it's gonna take a few years. It's taken three words to announce the official mission, which will happen in another three years. So they have to build the net. Takes three years to build the net. They've gotta build the whole thing. They've gotta build the whole satellite. Then once they get that done, they've gotta send it up it has to reach orbit, catch up to the Swiss cube, and then it has to get the Swiss cube and then fling it back into First tell me that the graphics on the screen of the computer that controls this looks exactly like The Pac Man game. I mean if it doesn't that seems like a real missed opportunity. Yeah, they have to do that. Seems like a real missed opportunity. So, yeah, that's what's going on with cleaning up space trash. But now, I think we can discuss what's really important that's going to be happening in space, in a galaxy far, far away which is Cameron's story. A new Han Solo spinoff. Also coming out in 2018. Okay. Wondering if they are coinciding. I'm going to say again, this is study ploy, advertisements. I think so. Yesterday, actually Disney and Lucas films announced 2018 A new Hans Solo origin story spin off is gonna come around exciting for Star Wars, directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord from the Lego movie. Oh the Lego movie. Who doesn't love the Lego movie. So So funny, and 21 Jump Street. 21 Jump Street, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was the first big one, I think. So they know how to do funny. Yeah they know how to do funny which is perfect, I think, because this Han Solo. He's a light-hearted guy. Charming rogue. He's a charming rogue. We should have him in here. Scoundrel. I'm really excited for this, though. This is awesome. I am so happy with the choice of the directors. I believe this is the first starwars movie or at least the first announced starwars movie were there's a duo directing. Yeah. So i'm happy about that. The writers of this film, John and Laurance Caston, Laurance Caston wrote for empire strikes back. Can't get a better starwars writer than Laurance Caston. Raiders of the lost ark. Yeah. This guy knows what he's doing. His son, John, is joining him. To do the script, wrote for Dawson's Creek and Freaks and Geeks. Oh, I love Freaks and Geeks. So funny, funny guy. Yeah. So he's a funny guy. Freaks and Geeks is hilarious. He'll be able to bring a little of that edge in, which I think is a good thing. Yeah, I think so. I think with something like that, I think you kind of have to have. Absolutely. And they did mention when they announced this movie that this is actually, supposedly, this is not the movie that Josh Trank left. Right. [CROSSTALK] The Boba Fett, right? Reportedly a Boba Fett movie and he left and they're still, I think, working on that project but they kinda said no this isn't the same movie. This is a new announced project. Which I'm a little surprised they didn't save this for Comic-Con. It's three days in advance. Something must have happened, something must have leaked, and they wanted to get ahead of the story. Yeah, they must have been like, ooh, somebody knows. We gotta get it out there before other people leak it. Here's a fun fact for you though, Chris Miller actually interned at Lucas Film. Did he? Many moons ago. And so he's kind of coming full circle. That's crazy. Interned there, weird. Magical. That's pretty awesome. It's so magical. Alright so, we've got to talk about the obvious question. So that brings us to our hashtag of the day which is TD, TDSOLO. You really, you gotta have TDSOLO. Yeah. Number one, who's gonna play Hans Solo? Because he's gonna be young. You can't have Chris Pratt. You guys can't use Chris Pratt because he's too old. He can't use Chris Pratt for everything. Well that and he's too old to play a, He's the same age Harrison Ford was when he played Hans Solo in the original Star Wars so we can't, it's. There's no prequel there. No prequel happening. She looks a lot younger. She does. I think people just looked older back then. She did. Like they just automatically... Like Carrie Fisher was like 19 or something and she literally looked like she was like 30. So I, then I don't know how that is. But then she didn't like age for a while and then, I don't know. I don't know how that works. Movie magic. Movie magic. So who's gonna play Hans Solo, and then also is there a plot that you would like to see? What's the plot? So, what are you thinking? Who's the actors you have in mind? I'm thinking James Wolk. That's a good choice. He's currently starring in Zoo on CBS. he was on The Crazy Ones, he has some comedic flare to him. How old though? He is not as old as you would think. Really? He is about thirty-ish, somewhere in there. He is too old. I think you have to go early twenties. you want somebody from Disney. Not necessarily, but maybe. Okay, who else you got? James Volk is the first I have. The second one I have is James Vanderbeek. Well obviously James Vanderbeek. He is way to old. Looks great. I don't know. I think he's too old. Also you can't have Dawson running around In the morning drop-down. Same thing. But, John Casden wrote a couple episodes of Dawson's Creek. That is true. So, that's what I'm thinking hey, there's a little connection there. Maybe they're still talking. Maybe they can get him on board. All right, fair enough. Maybe James Van Der Beek. You know the one I was thinking? Miles Teller. whiplash, Miles Seller. A lot of critical acclaim, has that kind of look about him. Could be a young Harrison Ford. He better fly the Millium Falcon at my tempo. That's right. [laughter] Don't be early and don't be late. No. What were you thinking? Here are my choices. Karen Harrington from Kingman Look at him. That is. Look at the guy. It's a great choice. That is. Come one. Such a good pick. It's a good pick. But that's a deep cut cuz he's kind of unknown. And I feel like it could be a great opportunity for him. Obviously every actor under the age of 40 is going to be begging to play this role. Yeah. Huge star making role. I also really like Grant [UNKNOWN], who plays the Flash currently. He's right in that age bracket for me, that's the age for me, I can see Grant [UNKNOWN]. I can see that, there's another bit of a connection there Chris Miller and Phil Lord were in talks potentially direct the Flash movie. He was to Flash, right. Maybe they're thinking about taking him. Maybe they kind of know. And then lastly, I like really this take of Garrett Headland. See [UNKNOWN] Garrett Headland. Look at that. That's a Hans Solo, my friend.>> That's a good That's a young Han Solo. Well the hair is there too. It is. He's really got that kinda rougue-ish charm at like interviews and stuff. You kinda see that rougue-ish charm. I would say Garrett Hedlund. That's my number one pick but those other two guys are great too. Really great as well but Garrett Hedlund. Who's gonna play young Chewie? I don't know. Justin Bieber. That's a good, that's solid. High pitched. [LAUGH] Awesome. High pitched. What he sounded. Yeah, that. We really sad. [LAUGH] So, #TDSOLO, tell us who you want to play and no Chris Pratt, you guys. No Chris Pratt. He can't do it. He can't do it. He's out. He's too obvious, too obvious. You're not allowed to pick up, it's too obvious. TDSolo, do that. All right, let's talk about the 3D printed bridge that your dad might be interested in. This is pretty fascinating, I love this. This is gonna be the world's first 3D printed steel bridge. It's gonna be a footbridge, it's gonna be in Amsterdam, and here's how it's gonna work. So we have this video, which is pretty cool. So the company is MX 3D, They have created a six axis robot that has a welding machine attached to it and so what it does is it prints metals, all kinds of metals, all kinds of materials, so it won't be a plastic bridge, like with 3D printing. People assume plastic. No, this is steel. This is a steel bridge, and this robot is gonna make it. So this is a smaller version of the bridge they want to end up making And how it works is it can detect errors and correct them in real time. It does not require scaffolding, this robot. All it does is it builds out an arm and then it walks on that arm. It flies on it. And keeps going. That's insane. And it has a ton of rotating ability. It can rotate in any direction. It can literally print this entire 3D structure by itself. Because it can just go in a spiral all the way around and just keep building. There it is printing out fuel, which is crazy looking. This video is amazing. It looks like a crazy straw. It does. A crazy straw made of steel that you can't get anything out of. [laughter] That is the kind of material, you can see they have this kind of beautiful Helix design, and they want to make this as a foot bridge and it will support regular folks walking across all the time. That's amazing. That's, they said based on the robot right now, it would take about, that's a smaller version of the bridge right there. Take about two months. To build a full size bridge, but they won't be ready to build that bridge until 2017. So that's how it works. They use two arms and then they build everything out and then the robots are just keep building it all by itself. I'm happy they're starting with a foot bridge. Bridge. Yeah. And not going for the car because that would make me a little bit nervous about using it. Maybe not a time to swing for the fences. No. I think you're right. I think you're definitely right. This is not a time to be like, let's do it so that big rigs can go across it. Yea let's just do it, let's do Golden Gate. Hope it works. Size. Yeah. That's. Maybe just hold off on that. Ill advised. But this could be a first step towards something like a Golden Gate Bridge, all fully 3D printed, which is pretty amazing. It's crazy when you see that the video of the thing just sliding along what it created. Yeah. Just hours ago. That's amazing. Yeah. Kinda reminds me of the little balsa wood things that you create in grade school. The little bridges and stuff. Ha. Yeah. Probably a little sturdier than that. Probably more sturdy. Probably gonna be okay. But yeah they're working on this. They haven't said exactly where in Amsterdam they're gonna put this bridge. They haven't announced it yet but in September in Amsterdam they're gonna be a visitor's center where you will be able to go and learn about the progress of the bridge. So in September we'll know. Exactly where it'll be and what the progress is on it. And you can check in on the progress of the bridge. Which I think is kinda great. So, that's- Time to take a flight. That's a, yeah. We're gonna have to. Tomorrow Daily live from Amsterdam. I am in. So, that is it for our news headlines. We're gonna take a quick break. We'll be right back with a totally insane mod squad that may seem very, very happy. And also your user feedback and our phonetog for the day. Don't click away. This is Tomorrow Daily. [MUSIC] Chow. If you're just now joining us, I'm here with Kim Lewis. Hello. Maganate Of radio, and television entertainment, terrible Chewbacca impersonator. Gotta stop doing that. Gotta really stop doing that, maybe it's just not a great idea. Really need to quit it. Half of the audience just stopped watching. They're done, between that and my collar area. Yeah, your weird collar. Yeah, I mean really you're blowing it right now. First timer, never coming back, never coming back. Okay guys we gotta talk about this crazy mod squad, so Logan, hit the graphic. [MUSIC] A friend of mine sent me this very interesting Craigslist post that pops up in Oregon, Eugene, Oregon. This guys says he's like a, what does he call himself? Oh, here's a quote from him. I'm going to read you this quote, okay? Preventing your chance to be the proud owner of the only dinosaur skeleton that has been reanimated through the mysteries of science and technology. It's a tricycle. [CROSSTALK] We have some images of it. It's a bike and it's in the shape of a small T.rex. Here's the best part. You can totally, it's a puppet as well. So you can ride you little T-Rex trike, and the handle bars control some wires that go to the mouth. So you can like open the mouth up, you can do the jaw. And then the pedals also have controls that control the arms, so you can wave And I do a little flail, a little flair. Little tiny arm? Little miniature T-rex trike right there. Look at that. It's hard for me to think about using this and not just rolling up. Falling over. And falling over. The seat's leaning back really far. I don't know, but I'd be so tempted to the just terrorize my neighbors with this thing. I would really like to put some music in there and literally just play "Ridin' Dirty" and just Cruise down my hood. Like that seems like the way to do it, right? How could you not? I just want Chris Pratt to ride this thing down the road. It seems like a perfect photo opportunity for Chris Pratt. This guy spent months putting together this entire thing. It's fabricated on a bicycle and he took it all apart and put it all back together. There's like foam pieces and all this stuff. There's some cons though if you're thinking about buying it. So we're gonna, I'm really sorry cuz there's a couple of things that you need to be aware of. Buyer beware caveat emptor you have to be aware that you're going to be constantly. Painting and refinishing this thing, because apparently it is a moving bicycle and things move and they rub against each other which means the paint rubs off. So it's You're also feeding it. You gotta feed the thing. Oh, you gotta eat at least six children a day. It's just really, it's tough. It's really tough. Or one adult human. I mean, six kids human or one adult human. I mean six kids, one adult human, either way. But yeah, so it's $2,000. Cost you two grand. Wow. Would you, if money were no object, would you buy it? I mean I kinda feel like that's a small price to pay. To be the king of the dino-trike? You would be the talk of your town, the talk of your neighborhood. You could start a tricycle gang. Trike-gang, a T-rex? A dinosaur trike gang? That's a good idea. I think that seems like a really great cartoon, so Disney, call me. What will make this great is if we have a little triceratops, velociraptors, that come along with this. Little ones- for the kids! For the kids, of course for the kids. I think that's totally worth two thousand dollars. I, if money was no object, if I was Oprah rich, I'd buy one. [LAUGH] I'd buy one for everybody. [UNKNOWN] You get a trike raptor, you get a tricycle machine, you get a trike raptor, you get a trike triceratops, trike-ceratops. Triceratops. And you- Patent pending. You also get one too. Patent pending. Patent pending, yeah of course. Of course. I love this so much. It's just really funny. He'll throw in a can of white paint for touch ups if you. You buy it for $2000. Oh, what a deal. But he decided he's not the right rider for this poor tricycle, and it needs the right, magical master to claim it, I guess. I like that that's why he's selling it. Like it just doesn't feel right anymore. Maybe you should be the one that takes this thing in. Who's the chosen one? Who's the Harry Potter of dinosaur tricycles? I don't know. I don't know who that person is. Alright guys, We've talked enough about that guy. Let's talk about you. It is time for your user feedback. [MUSIC] Alright so we're still waiting on some San Diego ComiCon Tweets to roll in. I figure we'll keep that hashtag going. We had somebody mention that they were surprised we didn't hear about a pizza throwing machine at Comic Con, because last year they had the pizza shooter, Yeah. That you could go and shoot pizza for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. So, I figured we'd go for some more web bots, which we did a story on Monday about, Two robots who got married and we asked, what do you get a robot couple who's freshly married? Because getting them a toaster seems rude. Yeah. I was thinking Rumba myself. It's like feeding a chicken eggs. it seems kinda weird. Yeah it's a little bit odd. Yeah it's a little strange. So Lewis wrote in and he said Get them lots of beer. Hashtag futurama. Hashtag bender. Lewis. Love that. That's a good one. That's a good one. Dustin rode in and said I would give them a free month of internet access so they can merge all their online accounts together. Awww, hashtag awww. Dustin's thinking of marriage clouds. That's what he wants for that. It's a community property state when you marry a robot. And then Link wrote in and said, I would give them oil so when they get old and rusted, they can loosen. Aw. That's sweet. You're assuming they're going to be together forever. Link is romantic. All romantic. Nice job, Link. And then, Kirk wrote This one makes me laugh. Kirk wrote in and said "haha I'd get them a cradle and hope for a new robot soon." [LAUGH] Would they just build a new robot and put it in the cradle? I think that's probably how it would work. I'm thinking I'm going to get them that dinosaur bike. That seems, if I could see a robot riding a T-rex bike, I mean that really seems like the pinnacle of civilization. What else would you want out of the That's like peak robot excellence. Yea, absolutely. Why would you ever want anything else, that's a great pull. 2000$ dollars is a small price to pay for that. Yea, that's true, small price to pay. We just have to find the right sized robot, because if it's to big then it will all come down, if its to small. We have to find one the size of a Dyson. That sounds good. just put that on there. A little tiny. Oh look we can use Ghangis. Oh yeah. We can use Ghangis right on top. That' fine. he can ride right on top of the T Rex's head. It's perfect. You guys we have one last feed user feedback. It's always our phonetograher of the day. [MUSIC] And we like Phonetographer of the Day here, because get to submit their really awesome pictures, and this is no different. Kaveen wrote in, and he said, Hi, Ashley and Khail, big fans of the show, all the way from Sri Lanka. Wow! Here's a picture I snapped with my Huawei Honor 3C while on a boat ride in Balapitiya, Sri Lanka. Love the show, keep the good work going, and geek on. Yours truly, Kaveen. that is an amazing picture number one. Number two, it reminds me of a Disney ride. The pirates. Yeah. It's like a cross between Pirates of the Caribbean and The jungle cruise, where it's like you have the really nice kind of enclosed space, but then you're gonna come out and it's gonna be like the jungle cruise. It's gonna be open, it's so lush and green and you're gonna see all kinds of amazing things like elephants crossing, and hippos. I feel like this could be a model for a Disney ride. Absolutely. That's how good it is. Can you please send us some of that water? Yes. We're going to need some of that. We're going to need some of that green stuff in the back, too. I don't know what it is. Trees? Is that, is that a grass?- I think they're called trees. I think I see a grass. One or two. Just two grasses. Grasses. Yeah, there's a couple. I will send you a $2000 Dinosaur bicycle! T-Rex tricycle! Yeah, yeah. Could you please send me some of that nature? That sounds great. But great job, Kaveen. Super awesome. If you want to send in your phonetography, you can in fact do that at tomorrow@cnet.com. Tell us a little story about it. And we always like to know what device you sent it with, because people like that stuff! They want to know what device you took your photo with. And then if you want to find us on social media, you can find us @tomorrowdaily on Twitter and a bunch of other social media sites if you use those. Just look us up, we are probably there. But mostly we use Twitter is all I'm saying. Of course you can find us Own personal social media. Cameron where can we find you on the internet? Well you can find me anywhere a Cameron Louis is sold @theonlycamshaft on Twitter and Instagram, Cameronlouis.com is my website if you wanna click it and subscribe there. Ashley, what about you? Well, supplies are limited, so act now. They are, yes. Cameron Lewises are only sold in limited quantities every year for ComiCon, actually. True. That's true. You'll be on sale at ComiCon at one of the booths. I am online at Ashley Scevy. You can find me on Twitter, you can harass me over there, which you guys so do, and so lovingly. And I appreciate you guys for that, because really, my Twitter is just a delightful place to be, and I mean that. Genuinely, and if you want to share the show with anybody you can send them to tomorrowdaily.com, that's how easy it is. Just share, share it, spread the love, like plague ink, like a plague. Boom. Like a plague, like a delightful, geeky plague. It's all on you, you guys. That's it for the show today. [LAUGH] I will be back tomorrow with a new co-host, guest co-host in place of Kale, Kale will be back on Monday. He is pretty much partying it up at Comic-Con already. So jealous. Please follow him at @khailanonymous to check out all of his fun, fun exploits. He's doing a bunch of junkets for Yahoo!, he's having a great time already. But until tomorrow Tomorrow. We'll see you guys next time. Be good humans. Bye. [MUSIC]
