Infiniti Project Black S incorporates Formula 1 tech for its latest concept

[MUSIC] When we first saw the Project Black S, it was as a design study at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. Well, here we are in 2018 in Paris, and it looks like the folks at Infinity have been very very busy, because behind me we've got a working prototype. Project Black S is based on the Q60 sports sedan, which on its own sports a three-liter twin turbo-charged V6, which is knocking out 400 horse power. But that is not good enough. Infiniti looks to Formula 1 Racing to add not one but two hybrid systems Now the first one is like a traditional hybrid system, regen braking, blah, blah, blah, but the second one can generate power even on acceleration. I know. So what they do is they put a generator on each of those turbo chargers to harvest the heat that happens when you really bury your foot. So all told we're looking at 563 horsepower. Now Project Black S is also fully by wire. So it's got Infinity steer by wire system which uses electrical impulses to steer those wheels instead of a mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the ground. It also has for the first time A brake-by-wire system, which should give you a really firm, strong pedal feel. But hey, I haven't driven it yet, so I don't really know for sure. Also on tap are three drive modes and a whole lot of carbon fiber to try to keep the weight down on this bad boy. Thus far, Infinity has just tested in the virtual world, but they plan on spending all of 2019 testing in real life, out on the track. So who knows, maybe by 2020 you can have a little F1 in your driveway. [MUSIC]
