Feel the heat from Kia's HabaNiro concept
I'll leave all of this spicy puns to the rest of the roadshow crew but man I am standing here next to Kia's HabaNiro concept and I can definitely feel the heat.
This is what KIA imagines to be kind of a jack of all trades vehicle, something that can get you to work, it can act as a virtual office and it might even get you off the beaten track a little bit.
The first think you notice are these butterfly doors, or as I like to call them, millionaire doors, and there's four of them for easy ingress and egress.
But when you get inside it's all about Minority Report kind of tech.
There's no physical or traditional screens as we think of them, instead the whole windshield acts as like a giant heads up display.
And you can send information to that heads up display through a little touchpad in the instrument cluster.
And of course the Habanero can drive itself and when it does that heads up display acts as a huge entertainment system.
Of course you can drive this yourself but there's no rear view mirror.
So if you need to see what's behind you, you just kind of glance up to where a rear view mirror would be and the car puts up a temporary display of a rear camera.
It's kind of cool but it's also kind of weird, Kia.
Now, most of the concepts we've seen here at the New York auto show, this baby is electric with a motor on each axle for all-wheel drive and a potential range of over 300 miles.
And, you know, this isn't just pie in the sky on Kia's part.
They've got the Stinger, and the Telluride, both of those came from concepts that met with really great public approval.
So, who knows?
Maybe some day we'll be seeing some millionaire doors and thousandaire prices.
