It seems like everyone is working on a lower cost mix reality headset right now and we've seen coming soon versions of these devices from Acer Lenovo and now HP.
And they all seem strangely similar that's because they are built from the same Microsoft Design from the same specs same displays and the same software.
Both the Acer and HP headsets are now available to pre order as developer edition models, which means they're not ready for general consumer use yet, but intended for programmers who wanna create virtual and mixed reality experiences.
Compared to the $300.00 Acer version we previously tried, the HP model costs $30.00 more.
But you get a knob in the back for tightening, more head strap padding, and, HP claims, a bigger cutout for your nose.
Trust me, as someone who's used almost every VR headset imaginable, good space for noses and eyeglasses is key.
In practice, both the Acer and HP mixed-reality headsets are impressive for VR first-timers But don't feel up to the level of the more expensive HTC and Oculus VR systems.
I call my hands on time with both of these systems as a work in progress.
There's a long way to go from the developer kit to an actual consumer-level product.
Microsoft says retail should be on sale by this holiday season and even better they won't require ultra high end PC hardware.
