Elon Musk says a New York, D. C. hyperloop is coming.
Elon Musk is the head of lots of companies, Tesla, Spacex, and the Boring Company.
The mission of the Boring Company is to solve traffic problems by building an infrastructure of underground tunnels which will allow for superfast travel times.
Musk tweeted just received verbal government approval for the Boring Company to build an underground New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC hyperloop.
New York to DC in 29 minutes.
New York and Washington DC are separated by around 200 miles and takes about 4 hours by car to make the trip.
In case you were unfamiliar with how a trip could be this quick, here's how these tunnels would work.
You drive your car onto a sled, which is then lowered into a tunnel.
The sled is then moved along the track at very high speeds.
Musk also tweeted that access to the tunnels would be from city center to city center in each case with up to a dozen or more entry/exit elevators in each city.
You might not even need your own personal car to travel using the hyperloop.
Concept images show shared cars.
This is all very exciting, however verbal government approval is far from having a permit to build a project of this nature.
As more details come in, we'll have them at CNET.com.
