The Motorola Droid was the phone that pretty much lunched android into the serious contender category, but it had a few drawbacks and along came the Droid 2 to fix some of those problems like the slowest processor and the awkward keyboard.
The Droid 2 wasn't perfect either and it sure wasn't the world phone until the Droid 2 Global.
