Do you have time for The Witcher 3 Expansion? - GameSpot's The Lobby

Gaming Hardware
[MUSIC] Hello welcome to the lobby. [LAUGH] where we get to hang out every Tuesday, 2:00 pm Pacific right here on Gamespot.com. How you doing? How you doing folks, I am your host Donnie Dwyer. And I'm joined by Michael [UNKNOWN] and Tyson [UNKNOWN] Hello You handsome gentleman's. representing team bro. Who better to talk about fantasy role playing games? Then team bro. 2015 has been a great year for video games. Yes. And we have a bunch of stuff to talk about on today's show. Metal Gear Solid [UNKNOWN] Which we've all been playing. But one of the games that we were playing earlier this year, a lot of. and I want like a sit rep from both of you. Was the Witcher Three, Wild Hunt, which we've today seen the first trailer for their new expansion pack. YEah the little teaser trailer. Yeah, how far are you in Wild Hunt, have you completed Wild Hunt. Oh yeah, I finished it. You finished it? I had sex with everyone. Really? Yes. Even that one- [UNKNOWN] Yeah [NOISE] And Mike, what about you? Yeah, I'm done with it. In finished awhile ago. Yeah. ****. You've not done it? I'm like 130 hours into that game. I played about 120. Yeah. Yeah. But I'm like, apparently, there's no spoilers left Apparently, there's a part where you think it's going to end and then it doesn't. Yes. Yep. So I even haven't completed that yet. Whoa. Oh. 130 hours [INAUDIBLE] That part's really good. Yeah, so that's that part where I'm like, oh, the game must be ending right here. It's over. And then, all of a sudden, you're like, oh wait, no. And then more. There's 20 more hours of gameplay. So you played what? 120 hours or so? About 120. But I did a lot of random **** they do. Like having sex with NPCs apparently. Yeah, and that was part of my goal. But it kind of screws you over at the end there, because no one loves you at the end again. Spoiler, by the way. Sorry. It's just like life. It is. You go around having sex with everyone. Have you seen how it pans out? Have you seen that ending? No I haven't. No spoilers. I won't spoil anything. Don't spoil anything Jason. All I have is And good guy and pick one first. [INAUDIBLE] I've already **** that up I think. Mike, what about you? How long have you played Witcher 2? Yeah, something like 110, 120 range. I beat it. I kind of played through it in just two weeks straight in this period between right when I moved out to the west coast. I was kind of you know, trying to do the [UNKNOWN] and I tried to do all the witcher contracts, you know to have a, which were some of my favorite parts. But yeah, once I finished the main story, you know there's like that's one climax and you think that's the end. Yeah. Keeps on trucking, so many climax. So what kind of, yes, many climaxes it sounds like. Many. So it sounds like a game that, it was a game when I was playing it that I realized I have the same problem, right with open ware games. The same thing with Fallout New Vegas which I only completed after hundreds of hours. I only completed it like three months ago, because I just I never like competing games because I'm worried that I'm gonna miss out on certain quests and stuff like that. So I've like paced myself on the Witcher Three, and now Metal Gear Solid's out, and I'm like Five percent of that game completed after twenty hours or something. And then Fallout's out in November, and we just found out about Heart of the Stone which is the new, like first paid expansion. First real expansion. After which, [INAUDIBLE] is going to have another ten plus hours. Worth of gaming content and It's a good year for gaming. It's a good year. It's the end of October so we've got a little bit of time before Metal Gear Solid. Do you think you're gonna have any time to actually get into? The expansion? Yeah. It depends how much I invest into Metal Gear. Right now, I mean you know me, I actually don't like Metal Gear games but I love Phantom Pain. Like I actually love this one. It reminds me a lot of It kind of combines a lot of those role playing elements of Destiny, and then with the open world of Witcher. But then it's all modern, or more modern. It's set in the 80's. But whatever, it's awesome. The gameplay's amazing. So, I don't see myself quitting that any time soon. I'm like you, by the way. I'm 3% complete. I've played the game for ten hours. So. Yeah, and it's hard to like parallel play these types of games. Yeah. It's hard to like jump from one Open World game to another one as well. Yeah, and I mean and you kind of factor in how much free time do you have. Are you married? Do you have kids? All that stuff, right? I'm not. And I don't. Yeah. Yeah, but I mean, you know, there you go. You'll have more time than most people then, or some people. Yeah. But how do you factor in, like how do you now make time for Fallout and then Metal Gear and then some kind of expansion that comes out. You know in October right? Yeah, October 13th. Mike, I'm gonna try and sell you on it in just a second. It's ten hours though right? That's it. That's what they say. Well, ten hours at least. You know, emerging game play, you can do whatever you want. I would expect they round up on that, or they estimate up. They said over a hundred hours of gameplay. I thought that when they said it about the Witcher [INAUDIBLE], they said 200 hours, and that's like, there's probably over 200 hours in that game. But you really have to dig deep. Yeah. You have to have sex with really everybody. Everybody. You even have to go to that one naughty place where all the girls wear masks. Yeah. Yeah. No standards. No standard. It's like the poor man's poor house. It's actually a rich man's, which, it ain't cheap, so. Yeah, yeah. Speaking of low standards, Michael Hardy what do you think of- [LAUGH] I don't know how to take that. Do you think you have [INAUDIBLE] to play the [UNKNOWN] when it comes out? I would like to, but realistically I probably won't get to it until Early next year. Just because, like you said, Fallout 4 and Metal Gear Solid V, these are games that inherently require a huge time commitment. And, they're very different things. Fallout 4 being more of a sandbox, and then Metal Gear Solid being this emergent gameplay-based kind of open world. But then Halo comes out, like- Oh yeah, and Tomb Raider. Right after, Tomb Raider same day as Fallout. Halo's two weeks before that, there's a lot. And then like, you know early December there's Just Cause and then I'll be playing the Rainbow 6C's and stuff like that. I don't think anyone's, like not enough of us have gotten around to playing much Mad Max either. No? BEcause it's just [UNKNOWN] painstaking. I think like game of the year now. Like think how many games you have to play now to even have some sort of valid opinion on what game of the year is. [CROSSTALK] You have to devote all your time now to like Metal Gear, to Fallout, to Tomb Raider, to Halo, to Just Cause 3. Matt, even Destiny we can say, like all the sounds coming out of Tomb for that as well, for the rest of the year. All right, well let me try to sell you on it, just in case. Ten hours of gameplay, a crew of, such as, including, a crew of [UNKNOWN] artist, spending the night partying with a ghost, And outsmarting the most bizarre creature Gerald has ever faced. There's also runeworlds, which are a new mechanism in combat, I believe. Have they gone into detail about what that exactly is? Which? The runeworlds stuff? The runewords, yeah, or whatever is that? No no. Yeah, words. Sorry, runewords, no. I feel like it's some sort of Like specking in one type of fighting or another? Yeah. Or perhaps against specific enemies? Okay. No they haven't. They haven't gone into detail on that. And their design for level 30+ characters, so plan on in-gamey folks. Mostly taken by [INAUDIBLE] in no-man's land. An oxen first There's a new lady in it as well who apparently Shanais from the first game, who you might be able to, you know, you can also. They said unique romance in there. That's the part that I picked out of it. Unique romance. How unique romance do you want you unique romance though? Like a pig or a frog? I'm, sure I'm open. It's 2015 Danny. What was that big thing that came with the cows? A big cow beast. Oh, the, I forgot what it's name was. A minotaur? No. No, it's not a minotaur. It was a good guess though, Mike [UNKNOWN] It was some beast because people were killing cows and selling their hides, like some like exploit in the game. And then like the bovine justice warrior came out and started screwing you up. Is that what it's called? I don't know. I mean [LAUGH] That's what I'm calling it now. Yeah. Maybe, God [CROSSTALK] [LAUGH] Maybe that's [UNKNOWN] for that. Okay, my favorite thing about this actually, which may make me double down for the hard copy of this, is that there's a limited edition hard copy of this expansion coming out that includes two pairs of deck card, the Gwent cards. Yeah. Two decks of Gwent, which is important, because you think, why are they giving you two? I was like, oh yeah, so you could play with somebody. [CROSSTALK] And it comes with rules on how to play it, that's the most important part. I also like the idea, maybe I prefer the idea, that they only give you one Gwint stack and then you'd have to like, search the real world to find somebody to play Gwint with. They're trying to expand on your social skills. Exactly. How dedicated are you to Gwint? You must find now Gwint players. It's another ques t>> we can delete Tinder now though. Yeah, start using- Finally. Finally, it's about time. It's interesting now because this is one of two expansions that we know about that's coming out for [UNKNOWN] and this one's kinda on the smaller scale. Like ten hours It's nothing to, you know, sort of, it's a dichromatic game but they're bringing out another one which is going to have a whole new world. [CROSSTALK] That's the bigger one. That's going to be in Q1 2016, I think that's when it is. And $25 gets you both, right? Yes. And they haven't even announced what individual prices will be. No, I don't think that there is okay. Got it. See, that's the thing, the new world aspect of it is kind of leading me to almost plan on playing this next expansion early next year. [INAUDIBLE] Yep. Being such a big game and like you kind of just want to absorb yourself in that game, I feel like that would be the perfect lead into. The next huge one. I'm curious. You guys, when there's like a lull, like a doldrum period where there's not a lot of games coming out, is there any game you guys go back to? Like, constantly? Not [INAUDIBLE] So this year, between, I sort of, I think Witcher was launched at a perfect time this year, but then going into that sort of summer lull and a lot of people had a bunch of time. I think Phantom Pain, if it was released any later this year would be in a little bit of not trouble but it would be difficult to squeeze in. But the game that I went back and played this summer was actually Fallout three, A New Vegas, because I was looking forward to Fallout Four and I note that it was like aspects of those open world games that I hadn't really, in the case of New Vegas I hadn't played yet. In the case of [UNKNOWN] Three I wanted to try playing it a different type of way. And those games are kind of good for competition that way. Yeah, is there anything you've come back to? This year's been pretty stacked actually Q ended. I think it will be the Witcher, at this point. I think I'll power through Metal Gear, you know, play that for a long time cuz I'm really enjoying it. And then I'll definitely try Fallout, Tomb Raider, and Just Cause 3. But yeah, I mean there's always like, I go back to Sift Five all the time. Oh really? When there's nothing going on. You know. And it's a game I was playing after the Witcher and in between, you know Metal Gear, you know. And so I could see myself going back like Mike said, going back to you know early next year, when maybe not a ton's coming out. Maybe right before Like I said, depends on when [UNKNOWN] is what? February now? Oh god, yeah. [CROSSTALK] Yeah, so I probably would go back to at least this first expansion early next year, maybe right after the holidays. Like when CES is going on, there's nothing coming out. That January lull. I think I'm gonna do the same thing as well. Oddly enough, we're all going to play it in January. Because let's be honest, actually the game is We're probably all playing in our spare time. I know any time I've got five minutes to an hour, me and my girl boot up Rocket League and play as much as possible. So yeah. Perfect just short burst game. Or long. Yeah, you could play the game for a long time. [CROSSTALK] this weekend. You can can just play for like two hours and you're good. And then you, I mean, and I, I mean with Metal Gear I can't, you have to dedicate time to that. Yeah. You know, like, you can get lost in that game for multiple hours. So, I mean, yeah, I think it's great that Cd Project is doing this. I think that they're obviously within good favor of the audience. Yeah.>> They've done a great job with their DLC the last, you know You know a couple months. All the free stuff. All free stuff and then for 25 bucks you get two expansions now, which is a great deal and that second one is supposed to be really meaty so I mean I, I mean they sold what six million copies of that game. Didn't they just announce that? So I definitely see a lot of People picking that stuff up, it just might not be until early January. Yeah, probably limited edition coming as well. But yeah, for all you folks who are looking to check out Witcher 3, October 13th is when Hearts of Stone is coming in, so let us know in the comments whether you're gonna pick them up yourselves. Listen up you're still playing the Witch Hunt three or if like these guys you've actually managed to complete it and are just chomping on SciQuest. Let us know in the chat or in the comments below.
