Check out Uconnect 6.5 in the 2017 Fiat 500X

Today we're taking a look at the technology in the 2017 Fiat 500X and holy crap, that's a tiny screen.
It's not even the base model.
There you've gotta deal with a miniscule three inch display.
Here we've at least got the mid tier flat point five inch unit which is about the same size of the screen of my smartphone.
Now, this mid-tier unit is a very simple set up.
It doesn't do a whole lot.
So, on one hand, we don't have a lot to talk about.
On the other hand, very simple systems like this typically don't have a whole lot to do as far as organization.
So, it's going to be very easy to find everything that you're looking for.
Now, most of the time, you'll be interacting with this bank of buttons along the bottom.
They'll bring you to the main parts of the interface.
Places like the radio, where you'll select between your satellite radio and terrestrial radio stations.
Next is media, where you'll have access to Bluetooth audio streaming, USB connectivity for storage devices and iPod compatible devices.
Next is the trip computer which shows things like instant economy and how far you've driven.
Things that you normally see in the instrument cluster but you can show them up there if you like.
Next you have phone which is where you'll find your hands free calling and messaging.
If you get a text message come on a blue-toothed paired phone here, you can actually have the system read it a loud to you so you don't have to Take your eyes off the road.
And finally, it apps where there's a clock and the outside temperature.
Those are not apps, stop doing automakers.
Just don't put the button there if you're not gonna put anything interesting behind it.
Now this mid-tier system is also paired with a decent premium audio system.
It's a Beats system, it doesn't sound great but it does get plenty loud.
And above this, there is actually a 6.5" system that features navigation powered by Garmen.
It's very similar to the set up that you'll see in a lot of Chrysler and Jeep vehicles.
Now, I'm tempted to complain about things that are missing from this system, like Android Auto, or Apple Car Play.
But with a screen this size, you could probably just tape your phone up there and open the Android Auto app and get a very similar experience.
So that's been your very quick look at the very limited tech in the 2017 Fiat 500x.
Be sure to check out the full review for even more details.
