BMW is committed to bringing more autonomy and technology to its cars and the seventh generation of the venerable Five series is the first to get the high tech treatment.
The next generation iDrive infotainment system is on a ten and a quarter inch screen, and you can operate that four ways.
Either via the controller, voice or gesture control, or you can even just Press the screen, like we do in our iPhones.
And speaking of iPhones, this one's got Apple Car Play but this time it's wireless.
And in a step towards autonomy, the 5 series will feature lanekeeping assist and lane change assist, both standard.
And the optional will be adaptive cruise control.
And when we're talking about autonomy, hey how about a car that not only searches for parking, it also pays for your parking, reserves your parking spot, and then parks itself.
Heck, this car will even park itself with you not in the car.
Just use your little fob.
[SOUND] And it goes right back into a tiny, tiny little parking spot.
Now if you're worried about all this autonomy cutting into your fun drive time, well, worry no more.
This car will come with two engines, a two liter good for 252 horsepower or the straight six that we all love so much.
We'll also get a hybrid of the 530 in the 530ei performance.
That makes an electric motor with a two liter engine, which is good for a total output of 252 horsepower and 310 pound feet of torque.
That car can go 31 miles on electricity only.
And it's rear-wheel drive.
And at the top of the line is the M550i.
That's got a V8 engine with 462 horse power.
479 [UNKNOWN] of torque.
And it rockets to 62 miles an hour in just four seconds.
We should see this 2018 five series in dealerships as early as February of this year.
Prices are going to start at around $51, 000 and going up to about $72,000 for that [UNKNOWN] m performance.
