Best TVs
Welcome to CNET Top 5, where each time we meet, we count down another
hot CNET list. I'm Tom Merritt.
The television, it's been the heart of America's home life since the
1950s. But lately, it's gotten complicated to pick one.
Biggest does not always mean best.
So we're here to help. Presenting the Top 5 best TVs.
At No. 5, The Samsung PNB650 series
Let's get it out of the way now. All TVs have stupid names like this.
This is a very good energy-efficient series of plasma TVs with Yahoo
widgets. If your TV doesn't have Yahoo widgets, you're so 2008.
Coming in at No. 4, the LG LH90 series. I should have explained
before, we rate series a lot because sometimes nothing changes but the
screen size with different model numbers. These LGs are top-flight LCDs
with great black levels and accurate color. A bit poor when you view
them from an angle though.
Up to No. 3, the Samsung UNB7000 series. Oddly this LCD series doesn't
have the best picture, but it has great design and technology. Of
course, it carries Yahoo Widgets, and it's energy efficiency is
outstanding. If you want to save on the power bill, this is the one.
Sliding in at No. 2, the Samsung PNB850/860 series. I told you the
names were all stupid. It's a plasma, and the only really bad things we
could say about it is it's a little expensive and doesn't have S-Video
inputs. Big deal. It has a great picture and it's super sleek looking.
Before we get to No. 1, it's time for another lame prize.
Get the question right, and you could take home this very used Star
Wars Space Shooter, in partially working order, batteries not included.
Here's the question. What was the first television set sold in the
United States? Be one of the first 10 people to answer correctly at
blog.cnettv.com and you could win the shooter!
All right. Let's get to our No. 1. If you just want the best TV,
regardless sf money or power consumption or anything. YOU get this
one.
At No. 1, it's...the Panasonic TC-PV10 series. It's our Editors
Choice, we gave it an 8.7 out of 10, and it's a plasma. A fairly
power-efficient plasma. But most importantly, CNET Reviews editor David
Katzmaier says it has the overall best picture quality of any flat-
panel HDTV we've tested so far this year.
You win, Panasonic!
Well That's it for this edition of CNET Top 5.
Remember to post your answer tot he trivia question at blog.cnettv.com
for a chance to win, the Space Shooter!
I'm Tom Merritt. See you next time.
I'm Tom Merritt, who the hell are you.
I'm The Reverend Tom Merritt, wishing you happy, holy viewing.
