Bentley Bentayga Speed: The world's fastest production SUV

Cars
[SOUND] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] Welcome to the new Bentley Bentayga speed, which is well, speedier. [MUSIC] [BLANK_AUDIO] This new ultimate version of the bentayga now does 190 miles an hour making it the fastest SUV currently on sale. In fact, look, the fastest production SUV ever. Taking the title away from the Lamborghini burros by half a mile an hour. Now, the trouble is, it's only three miles an hour faster than an all been taken, and in fact is only 26 brake horsepower, more powerful than a normal Ben tager You don't get any more talk either. The speed having to make do with a standard cars admittedly ample 664 pounds foot and 3.9 seconds, the notice 62 mile now time is only a couple of tenths quicker than the standard car. So three miles per hour and a couple of tenths doesn't feel like a lot for 20,000 pounds. However, there are a couple of other reasons why this E version is interesting. First off, this is probably the one that everyone will buy, as Bentley customers seem to have a for top of the range models. Then there is defined that this has a new exhaust, which sounds so bombastically fantastic that it almost just defines the extra money. On its own. [BLANK_AUDIO] It's by Akrapovic, yes that is how you pronounce it. And has a load more carriage from this W12 engine. You also get a rear roof The spoiler, I should have mentioned that, crucial, I think you'll agree, to making this look a much more pleasant vehicle. [MUSIC] There have also been changes to the chasis settings with 15% firmer suspension and attendant tweaks to the 48 volt anti-roll system. [MUSIC] All the dynamic changes actually only happen when you put the car into Sport Mode. Which is when you get the louder exhaust as well. On the corners, it's impressive but you never have a clear really through the steering what's going on. And I can't say it's something particularly enjoyable. It can handle the mass of that 48 volt roll system but never disguise it. It is marvelously comfortable on the motorway and it doesn't look too imperious in this shade of gray. However, the interior while it gets our cantara for the first time, feels a bit dated next to the Continental GT and flying spur. And I don't think this red color scheme helps matters. Bentley calls it cricket or. So is there any joy to be had from A Bentayga speed. Well, yes, in one respect really lots of feeling huge amount of mass traveling very, very quickly. And the Bentayga speed can travel very, very quickly. [BLANK_AUDIO] There is a certain majesty to a lot of mass moving fast. Just look back at videos of Jonah Lomu sprinting down a rugby pitch. And to demonstrate this with a Ben Tager speed. We've come to Bruntingthorpe aerodrome in Leicestershire. Opened in 1942. It was initially used by the RF during the Second World War. Control was then passed to the US Air Force, which used this as a base for B 47 strategy nuclear bombers in the Cold War. This is when the runway was widened and almost doubled in length to a monstrous 3000 meters or 1.8 miles. After the U.S. Air force left in the mid 60s, the site was sold off, which was bought on the 70s by Chrysler before being sold to the current owners, the Waltham family about ten years later. I've been coming here for years and. You see all sorts of car tests taking place here, but the actual location is not pretty but it's an amazing place to spend time. Apart from the [UNKNOWN], there are some extraordinary aircrafts here. [MUSIC] The Cold War jets collection has its home at Bruntingthorpe, and there is everything from a mighty Nimrod to a Buccaneer to a Camra to a VC-10. There are also a couple of old 747s, one of which has been used for an explosion test. It is a fascinating place. Of all the planes here, probably my favorite is actually the Hawk Hunter. It's just such a cushy-looking plane. But probably the most famous is this, the Hanley Page Victor. It's part of the trio of planes that made up the V-Bombers, the Avro Vulcan and he Vickers Balon being the other two. This particular one teasing Tina or Meldrew is XM715 and it lives here at Bruntingthorpe and does fast taxi which actually is probably reasons famous because it was the last Victor ever to fly, slightly accidentally when it took off here during one of those fast taxi days. Anyway This is one of the planes that was converted to a tanker and more famously better known perhaps for taking part in this operation blackbuck, which is the famous long range bombing of the Falklands Port Stanley Airport. The bombing itself was carried out by the Vulcans, but these did the refueling on the way And it was just extraordinary. I recommend Roland White's book Vulcan 607 if you haven't read about it. And if you think that the victor doesn't look that extraordinary by modern standards, just consider this. One of these first flew in 1952, or just seven years after the end of the Second World War. When propeller powered planes like Lancaster's Wellington's were the norm. It represents a simply staggering rate of progress and talking about staggering rates of progress. [SOUND] [UNKNOWN] Boy, this gets off the line. It's not even dry today. its just amazing, its at 110 miles per hour already, it travels like a brick thrown at a riot. 140, That's 150, assume you like that. It's amazing. Hits 160 and I'm gonna break. We no longer have the full length of this Strawberry Cold War runway, but there's enough of it. The other thing that is worth mentioning is for a car [UNKNOWN] you need a pretty impressive set of breaks, and thankfully this has some big ones. The biggest in fact Besides something Donald Trump might say, but these are 440 millimeters in diameter which is 17 inches which when you start comparing that 17 inch set of wheels is not a small set of wheels in my mind somehow and that's the size of the brakes. Madness. Of course, we weren't going to do that just once. [SOUND] So impressive being in something this big and being this high up. In fact, being that mass moving so fast. It's almost possible to imagine that you were in some sorta large aircraft, which is not entirely and appropriate, given the who eventually did design to rotary aircraft engines during the First World War. And of course there is the famous Flying V badge on the bonnet. Perhaps if you just pulled back the steering wheel. [SOUND] And take off. [SOUND]
