Apple AirPods: CNET editors react
Okay, let's talk about the iPods.
Yes, the new Apple audio wireless solution.>>Yep.>>This presents the challenge for me.>>Okay.>>Generally, I'm not to [LAUGH] progress.
I think Apple has had a lot of success in the past for being very ruthless when it comes Scrapping off technology and now the headphone port is gone.
Their solution, their this is the thing you can use instead, is the air pods and I'm not sold on it.
It's the design.
What do you think?
I mean yeah, I'm kind of on board with the idea of it.
I have to say, like there was all this talk about Apple getting rid of the 3.5 mil headphone and they were just gonna have a line in connection.
And then they ditched the headphone jack, and then they put a little of that during the box, what a cop out.
Seriously, like-
You call that courage?
I think Steve Jobs would never have gone well let's put one extra thing in the box.
He was all about thinking out of the box, but anyway.
So, I really like the idea of wireless headphones.
I'm a fairly recent convert to wireless headphones.
I love it.
You can get up.
You can go to the bathroom.
You don't have to take them off.
You don't have to talk to anybody on the way.
It's fantastic.
What I'm less keen on the fact is that these are Apple earbuds.
And that Apple earbuds are awful.
They just don't fit.
I don't know anybody who, they don't fit in your ears.
In-ear headphones, there's loads of different types Types of in-ear headphones.
And loads of choice in different ones to fit.
There's the ones that have the little things that loop over your ear.
Every single set of in-ear headphones comes with different rubber shapes.
Thinks it's for different shapes of ears.
But aren't exclusive purpose of keeping them sealed inside your ear?
Keeping them sealed in.
And at least when you drop a pair of wireless headphones.
Like if one falls out of your ear because it's not very comfortable.
It pops, falls out of your ear, pops down here, and you're just like, okay, you stick it back in again.
It's no problem at all.
But with these things.
I mean, Apple's Air buds it's just like trying to put a clenched fist in your ear.
Like they never stay in your ear with the white cables.
So I don't know how this is going to work with these things that are hugely expensive.
Aren't held into your head in any other way What It thought was a little unusual was how yet again since the acquisition this was another example where we saw beats fairly sidelined.
And I thought this would be the point they would really shine.
They weren't So Beats branded, we saw that Beats, as far as we can tell didn't have anything to do with the engineering.
That's true.
Because whatever you think of Beats and it is divisive company among audio fans because some people don't like the sound they make.
They do know how to actually make things that Stick in your ear.
And they are an audio company, that's kind of their expertise.
What do you think of the little dental floss charging box?
Can you see yourself carrying that around?
I'm not sure about that.
I think someone is probably already working a case that you can just stick the ear buds in the back of the phone.
But going back to what you said about beats, I think it's fair to say that they forgot about Dre.
[LAUGH]
There we go.
I think we'd better wrap up there.
We're yet to be convinced but we're trying to keep an open mind as we go to try them.
Who knows, maybe Apple's nailed and in a year's time we'll all be walking around with a little Toothbrush.
Electric toothbrush [UNKNOWN]
I'll be on my fifth pair by then.
You'll be on your, yeah, definitely.
There'll be plenty, if you need a [UNKNOWN]
They'll just be littering the streets.
Yes, when you go to visit friends instead of going like, do you have a charger?
You'll just fish down the back of their sofa and you'll be able to pull up like fistfuls of [UNKNOWN].
Anyway, that's what we think but let us know what you think guys.
And stay tuned.
