2nd Gen Intel Core Chip
This is Rafe Needleman from CNET at CES 2011 looking at the second generation Intel Core chips, otherwise known as Sandy Bridge that were announced this week.
This is one of them.
Got a billion transistors in here.
This is Intel's latest chip.
As with all previous improvements in Intel's chip architecture, this one is stronger, better, faster.
The big news about this one is that these chips have a equivalent of an ATI 5450 graphics chip built into them.
So, you don't necessarily need a discrete graphics card if you're going to be doing casual gaming or HD rendering or something like that.
These chips also have transcoding technology inside them so they can outperform even a discrete graphics card when it comes to transcoding media, say moving it from camcorder to your iPod or something like that.
The chips will be out on Sunday in computers from-- in the i3, i5, and i7 chips will have Sandy Bridge technology.
These chips also have the new Intel WiDi or Wireless Display technology so they can shoot a video up to 1080p to an external monitor wirelessly while the chip continues to do work for you or play games.
Again, these new Sandy Bridge-powered Core i3, i5, and i7 computers come out on January 9th which is this weekend.
