2022 Ford Maverick: Big truck features, pint-sized package
[MUSIC]
What vehicle carries up to 1500 pounds can tow a literal tonne get your 40 miles per gallon in the city and costs about $20,000?
Well, none that I can think of at least right now.
But the new 2022 Ford Maverick compact pickup will do all of that and a whole lot more When it goes on sale later this year.
[MUSIC]
So that's the big news folks.
Thanks so much for watching, blah blah blah, like and subscribe.
You wanna know more about this little trucklet?
Well, okay, here's the scoop.
The 2022 Maverick is a compact rig less than 200 inches long, meaning it's noticeably smaller than the Ranger But with a standard hybrid powertrain and all the clever features this vehicle offers plus a bargain basement price.
This thing could be the most important product Ford launches in 2021.
Don't forget the automaker is reviving the legendary Bronco SUV and introducing an all electric F-150.
But yeah, this thing could be that significant Like the Honda Ridgeline and that upcoming Hyundai Santa Cruz.
The Maverick features a unibody structure so there's no separate frame underneath or gaps between the cab and bed, front wheel drive model bolts Yes, you heard me.
Front wheel drive models feature a simple torsion beam rear end.
While all wheel drive variants benefit from a swanky multilink suspension, but either way, this thing should ride and drive a lot like a small car.
And indeed, Ford is building the maverick as a truck for drivers who never knew they wanted to pick up Car like manner should make these first time truckers feel right at home though this boxy styling is what will likely grab their attention and get them in the dealership door.
The Maverick has a look all its own with sturdy squared off styling and, of course, a very prominent grill which is flanked by LED headlamp assemblies.
And automatic high beams of course, both of which are standard.
Overall this vehicle is honest, simple and no frills and in a lot of ways it kinda reminds me of an F 150 from back in the 1990s.
Now it's definitely more truck like than that upcoming Hyundai Santa Cruz though I've gotta say I really like it.
During development, the maverick supposedly went through the same rigorous testing f series pickups indoors.
So even though this thing is built on a unibody structure, it should absolutely work and hold up like a traditional pickup truck.
The 2022 Ford Maverick comes standard with a hybrid power train.
It's centered around a 2.5 liter Atkinson cycle four cylinder engine.
You also get a continuously variable transmission and front wheel drive This combination gets you 191 horsepower 155 pound feet of torque and likely adequate performance but the fuel economy now that should be absolutely stellar because this truck is estimated to run Return 40 miles per gallon city.
There's no word yet on highway or combined ratings but a front drive Ford Escape Hybrid with the essentially the same power train is rated at 44 city, 37 Highway and 41 MPG combined.
So I expect this truck to be a couple ticks behind those numbers on each driving site.
The base Maverick can haul 1500 pounds and tow up to 2000 which isn't all that much though it should still be enough for a couple jet skis or maybe a small camper if you need more oomph.
However, a conventional power train is available, a two liter EcoBoost four cylinder engine that gives you up to 150 horsepower and 277 pound feet of torque it comes matched With an eight speed automatic transmission with the available towing package this up level power train can drag up to 4000 pounds which ain't too shabby and FX for offroad options group is also available Which is fitted to this particular truck here.
It gives you things like underbody shielding All Terrain tires and upgraded suspension system and more.
The cargo boxes the business end of any pickup truck in the Mavericks is pretty small at About four and a half feet, which is roughly half a foot less than the Ford Rangers smallest bed though this should still be longer than the Santa Cruz's Ford is calling this the flex bed and for good reason it is super versatile.
It's got lights and PowerPoints and various tie downs and a multi position tailgate.
In fact, we shot an entire video just on the flex bed so make sure you check that out.
But first get a load of this interior.>> No, it's nothing fancy, but the Maverick's cabin is straightforward and like it's exterior very honest.
That light gray trim is embellished with ground up carbon fiber, which adds strength and makes it look pretty cool.
And the door panels are designed to easily accommodate one liter water bottles which is great when you're out on the trail.
[MUSIC]
So with four doors and a relatively low ride height, it's super easy to get in here.
And I've got to say this cabin is surprisingly roomy.
It's got about as much space as the larger ranger.
Now of course, five people will fit though.
The person occupying the middle seat back there better be pretty small.
What's not tiny however, is the standard infotainment screen which clocks in at eight inches.
Naturally Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are both supported though neither can connect wirelessly.
You also get a standard embedded modem with Wi Fi that supports up to 10 devices.
Beyond all that fordpass allows you to locate your Maverick check on the fuel level lock or unlock the doors and even remotely start at all from your smartphone.
[MUSIC]
The 2022 Ford Maverick goes on sale this fall but you can build in price and even reserve one right now at Ford's website.
It will be offered in three trim levels there's xL xL T and of course Lariat.
As for pricing, this truck starts at just $21,490 including 1495 in destination fees, which Makes it about half as expensive as the average new vehicle transaction price in the US today, which means the maverick is probably going to appeal to drivers that are shopping for economy cars.
It's an incredible value.
Still, if you go all in with every Bell and whistle on a top shelf Lariat model, you'll still only be spending about 38 grand which Makes it a screaming deal if you ask me.
You can look for this truck in the market this fall.
