2017 Ford F-150 offers an engine choice for every situation

When is a V6 better than a V8?
Well when it's turbo charged to produce more torque and almost as much horsepower.
When it can tow more and when it returns a better EPA fuel economy.
This magical 3.5 liter V6 is under the hood of this 2017 Ford F150 And I'm gonna find out if it lives up to the hype.
[MUSIC]
Now I'm in the super Cushy King Ranch tremline, and while other F-150's are available with a turbo-charged 2.7 liter engine or a naturally aspirated 3.5, the King Ranch comes standards with a 5 liter V8 but for a mere $1,000 more you can get the twin turbo charged 3.5 liter V6 which is good for 375 horse power and 470 pound feet of torque Now when you put that against the V8's numbers, 385 horsepower and 387 pound feet of torque, well, you can see why people are pretty excited about this ecoboost V6.>>[music]
This V6 engine has more than enough grunt to get you merged on the freeway and up and over the hills and the ten speed automatic transmission, which I admit I was pretty skeptical at first.
Well, it shifts really smoothly.
So much so that you barely notice it's shifting.
So when you get to 55 miles per hour on the highway in tenth gear, your revs are sitting about 1200 RPM.
And that included with the automatic stop start gives you an EPA fuel rating of 20 miles per gallon combined.
But my time in the truck with my lead foot I'm seeing 14.2.
It's kind of bad.
[MUSIC]
I was actually very surprised at how the F-150 handles.
I mean it's a truck right so it's pretty bouncy over broken pavement but it handles the turns quite well.
In fact better than any other full sized truck that I've driven lately.
And the 10 speed automatic is really happy to down shift when you're coming out of turns.
I do wish that there was a little bit more weight on the steering when I get in to this long sweepers but most people are gonna find it just fine.

My King Ranch comes with a four wheel drive and a locking rear differential.
But let's be honest, this kind of four by four is made for farm stuff, like getting stuck in the mud, maybe, not the real off roading.
Where Ford really knocks it out of the park, is with towing.
With the Max Tow package and the 3.5 liter EcoBoost, you can tow up to 12,200 pounds.
And if you're like me and you and drag anything forward, but backing up, maybe not quite so much.
Well the Trailer Backup Assist means that all I need to do is turn this little dial here in the direction I want my trailer to go.
It's super easy and makes backing up the trailer a cinch.

The inside of the King Ranch is a really nice place to be.
The space is cavernous.
The front seats are both seated and cooled.
The rear seats are heated, and there's even a massage function.
I mean, yeah they're just kind of expanding and contracting the bolsters, and frankly, Mercedes Benz does it better, but still, it's a pretty cool feature, and it's nice to have on long, Trips.
What's disappointing is Ford's tendency to hide drivers aids inside packages, so blind spot monitoring, well it's part of a $3700 package.
Lane keeping assist and a 360 degree camera?
That's part of $990 technology package.
And adaptive cruise control is a standalone option at $1250.
If you want to see how those features work as well as a look at the sync-3 infotainment system, you can check out our Deep Dive video into the tech of the F-150.
The 2017 Ford F-150 in the King Ranch is only available in the large, super crew cab and with a five and a half or six and a half foot bed, but there a plenty of other options with different combinations.
These start at about $27,000, but this guy with $11,000 worth of options including two grand worth of chrome, you're looking at 66 grand.
[MUSIC]
There are seven different models and five engine options for the 2017 Ford F-150.
And if you can wait until 2018, there will be a diesel option as well This King Ranch Tramwell it's just a little bit too much for me, what with all the chrome and everything.
But hey, if you got the scratch and you love it, I give you my blessing.
