Rumored Huawei Nexus 6 comes into clearer focus with benchmark details
A pair of benchmarks reportedly belonging to Huawei's first Nexus phone help paint a clearer picture of what we'll get with this alleged device.
New benchmark scores surfacing this week help paint a clearer picture of the rumored Huawei Nexus 6 smartphone. Stemming from two separate sources -- GeekBench and GFXBench -- the hardware details give anxious Android fans a better idea of the performance that Huawei's long-rumored first phone in the Nexus family will bring.
Google will be hosting an event on September 29 (though we're still awaiting official invitations) where we widely expect to see two Nexus smartphones, one from Huawei and the other from LG, which has made Nexus phones before. The Nexus line is Google's way of offering the latest and greatest in the Android software without the look and feel of that other handset makers often add on top of stock Android to differentiate their products from competitors. Although Google doesn't make the Nexus phones itself, this family of products is roundly considered Google's phones.
This year marks the first time Google has turned to Huawei for a Nexus device. The Chinese vendor has made a concerted effort to offer more high-end smartphones in its lineup, like the recently-launched Huawei Mate S , with an eye toward the US market. Having Google backing could go a long way to establishing a serious, respected presence in North America.
Assuming the specs from the benchmark listings are the real deal, the Huawei Nexus 6 would offer users a 5.7-inch display at a 2,560x1,440-pixel resolution. The rear could house a 13-megapixel camera, while the front-facing shooter should snap 8-megapixel selfies.
Whereas reports from July hinted at a next-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, the Nexus 6 may ultimately feature a Snapdragon 810 CPU. Factor in the rumored 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, and you're still looking at a powerful phone running stock Android.
This fall event will usher in the Android 6.0 Marshmallow software upgrade with features such as Android Pay and streamlined app permissions . With only a few weeks left until Google officially unwraps its 2015 Nexus phones, we're keeping an eye out for more photo leaks to surface, giving us a better glimpse at the Nexus 6.
