It's pronounced the 1X because it does what other cars do with 1X the fuel, weight and waste. Like in this case, two thirds less weight than the current Prius or just about 930 pounds thanks to extensive carbon fiber. That's a huge drop in weight which therefore makes possible a tiny power train, composed of a 500 CC engine in an electric hybrid configuration with the whole power train shoved to the back driving the rear wheels.
