Sony's STR-DN1060 is high on features and performance
While Sony has been making surround receivers since time immemorial, in the last few years the company has really upped its game with a mix of compelling features, really great sound, and affordable pricing.
I'm happy to say that the new STR-DN1060 continues in this vein.
This is a 7.2 channel receiver that focuses on streaming features instead of newer surround technologies like Dolby [UNKNOWN] DTXX.
The Sony will do Apple Airplay and it's compatible to Google Cast, plus Spotify Connect and DLNA.
The receiver is also the first on the market with Sony's song [UNKNOWN] links technology, which is the company's attempt at a [UNKNOWN] multi-room system However, the app does have some problems at present, particularly with Android.
And it might be better to wait a little while if you want this feature particularly.
However, using DLMA and Spotify Connect does work well.
The design is identical to previous years with a large volume knob and smaller selection switch.
Plus around the back it has the same number of HDMI inputs.
Five but the remote control now has a dedicated Bluetooth button which makes it handy to use.
One of the best features is to receive the ability to transmit Bluetooth to a pair of compatible headphones.
Which should make private listening a lot easier.
Overall sound quality is every bit the equal of last year's receiver And while music very well, it excels at movies with a dynamic sound that suits today's blockbusters.
If you're looking for a receiver that's an all-arounder in terms of doing both music and movies as well, in addition to offering a number of streaming options in the phone [UNKNOWN] decent choice, but if you want the latest and greatest cinema experience, I'd instead suggest the [UNKNOWN] TXSI646 for the same money.
