Speaker 1: Today, I'm gonna show you a new way to transfer data from your old iPhone to an iPhone 13 or any new iPhone, even if you don't have enough iCloud storage. But before we jump in, please take a moment and subscribe to the how to do it all channel for more. How to videos that cover a plethora of topics with NARI of hosts. So maybe you just got a sweet new iPhone, 13 or 13 pro or 13 pro max or 13 mini that's, [00:00:30] all of them, right? They all have new cameras, faster performance, cinematic mode, and best of all, a longer battery life. But there's a problem. All of your messages, photos, and V videos and music are on your old iPhone 11, you know the same one you got the day you went to go see it. Chapter two, man, what was up with that clown of those red balloons?
Speaker 1: I tell you, anyway, there are three main ways to transfer stuff from an old iPhone, two, a new one. Now let's quickly break down each way. And then [00:01:00] I'm gonna show you how to use iOS 15 method of getting temporary iCloud storage for free. If you're running Mac OS Catalina or newer, you could PL plug your iPhone into your Mac with a charging cable and use finder to back up your data to your computer. This replaces using iTunes, which did well, pretty much the same thing, rest and power. It look, the benefits of backing up to a Mac are numerous. It's not only the fastest way to transfer your data, but you don't need wifi. [00:01:30] And if you choose to encrypt your backup file, it will store all your passwords. So you don't have to sign into countless apps and accounts on your new iPhone, out of the three methods or transferring data.
Speaker 1: This is the only one that do that. Now the downside with this method is that you need a computer obviously, and space on your computer. That backup file can take quite a bit of room. Then there's, Apple's direct data migration tool that copies your old iPhone onto your new one without a computer or iCloud. [00:02:00] If you wanna know more, I did a whole video about it and you should watch it. The upside here is you don't need a computer or access to iCloud, but the downside to this process is that you won't be able to use either phone until the transfer process is complete. Now, sometimes this process can take an hour or even hours to finish. Then there's using iCloud to do the transfer. The upside of this is you don't need to be tied to a computer and you'll have access to your old phone while the new one is downloading your backup file.
Speaker 1: [00:02:30] It's faster than the direct transfer method, but not as fast as backing up to your Mac. The downside is you need to use wifi and you need enough storage on your iCloud account to fit the backup file. If you're an apples free five gigabyte iCloud tier, that probably won't be enough for most people. And this is the reason. Many people don't use iCloud to transfer data because they don't have enough storage. You could of course pay apple a couple of bucks a month for more storage, but Hey, this is America. And after buying a new phone for 700 or 800 [00:03:00] or a thousand dollars or more, we don't pay $36 a year to make our lives easier. Do you think we're stupid? And that's where iOS 15 comes in to help you out. It lets you borrow some iCloud storage to create a backup file on your old iPhone and then download it to your new iPhone.
Speaker 1: And here's how you do it. First, try to back up your old iPhone with your existing iCloud account. If you know it's already full, you can skip this step. So here you could see that [00:03:30] this iCloud account storage is full and that there isn't enough room to back up my old iPhone. If that's the case, upgrade your old iPhone to iOS 15 will work on the iPhone six S four, newer and depending on the speed of your wifi, it can take a while. It took me about 20 minutes to upgrade, which is just enough time to watch the opening of Austin Powers. International man of mystery. This 1997 movie stars. Mike Myers as Austin Powers, a 1960s British by who is [00:04:00] frozen and thought 30 years later to battle Dr. Evil, who has also played by Mike, Mike, what it's done. Yeah, baby. After the update is complete, you can start backing up your old iPhone with iCloud, go to settings general.
Speaker 1: Then scroll down to the new option. Transfer or reset iPhone. A page will appear. And under the prepare for new iPhone section tap get started. A window will pop up explaining how extra iCloud to move apps and data works. Read [00:04:30] it over. And when you're ready, hit the continue button. You might see an iCloud backup is turned off message before the extra iCloud window appears. If you do tap, earn on back up to transfer. Now this didn't pop up for me, but it might for you next a move data for all your apps screen will appear. Read it over. There's a list of apps that are not syncing their data with iCloud, but there's also a button to move all app data with iCloud, tap it. Another screen pops up, explaining what you can do with your old [00:05:00] iPhone E it over or not. It doesn't matter.
Speaker 1: Then hit the blue done button. Finally, your iPhone will start backing up to iCloud. If you look on the main page in settings, you'll see a new section that says iCloud backup in progress. This can take a few minutes or much longer, depending on how much you need to back up, which is enough time to start watching Austin Powers. The spy who shagged me the 1999 sequel has Mike Myers back as Austin Powers, Dr. [00:05:30] E, and a new character named that bastard. The film title is a reference to the 1977 James Bond film. The spy who loved me, the academy award nominated movie. It's done. Ah, oh, behave.
Speaker 1: Once the backup is complete. The new section in settings will read ready for your new iPhone pro chip. You do not need to wait to do the backup until you have your new iPhone. In fact, you can start this process up to 21 days in advance. [00:06:00] If you create the backup before you get your new phone, you're gonna save a bit of time on the day you get the phone, right. Also, if your iPhone doesn't arrive within 21 days of doing the backup, you can get an additional 21 days to restore your temporary backup file on your old iPhone. Open up settings and tap key. My backup longer pro tip. Finally, when your new iPhone arrives, whether it's an iPhone 13 or older, power it on and follow the prompts on your new phone, completing task, entering your passcode, [00:06:30] setting up face ID, agreeing to Apple's terms and conditions.
Speaker 1: Eventually you'll end up on a screen, offering you different ways to, to transfer your data. Select restore from iCloud, then sign into iCloud with the same apple ID and password as your old iPhone cue, the most recent backup and follow the prompts after which your backup file will start downloading onto your new iPhone. This can take a while depending how big the backup file is. And the speed. If your wifi would, should be more [00:07:00] than enough time to watch Austin Powers in gold member. The third film of the Austin power series came out in 2002. The movie features cameos by Tom cruise, John Travolta, Danny DeVito, and stared Michael Kane and Beyonce. Beyonce was an awesome powers.
Speaker 1: Sorry, just letting that sink in. Let's let's let's move on. Let's just move on. After the download is complete, your new iPhone reboot and your apps will [00:07:30] finished downloading all of your photos, emails, contacts, appointments, and messages will be there. Now you might be wondering what happens to that temporary iCloud back up when you're done well, it will stay available for seven days and then be permanently deleted. So that's it. If you've used this new temporary iCloud feature, let us know how it went, or if there were any curve balls thrown your way. Also, if you're interested in grabbing a new iPhone, check out the link in the description, and last, if you like this video, give us a thumbs [00:08:00] up and if you don't keep your mouth shut, all right, let's see if I can, uh, see if there's any new, awesome powers fan fiction here being awesome. Powers four oh, maybe, uh, a Dr. Evil prequel and the style of joker, the movie
Speaker 2: So much.
